Would appreciate any thoughts on the following:
In laying 5/4 x 6 PT decking, is it worth kerfing the underside to prevent cupping when the boards will be screwed in place?
Tx.

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

kerking deck boards
I do it on cedar as well as PT. 3 cuts first the Middle, then over by half on each side ( split the difference) . Oh and yea it is worth the trouble.I also did some siding on one side of a house with brutal sun conditions after the home owner replaced it twice before.
no kidding?
I've never heard of anyone kerfing a deck board or siding for that matter.
Since the original poster hasn't been back since 2001, I guess we'll never know if he did it or not.
I understand the theory, but what compelled you to do it?
