2013 Fest at Taunton Press? (post #206734)

Fine Homebuilding would like to officially throw our hat into the ring to host next year's Breaktime Fest. We brainstormed a small list of activities which includes a tour of the buildings (including the Project House, Woodshop, and Test Kitchen), watching editors work in their natural habitat (cubicle farms), and watching/participating in a video shoot.

We do not want to cut in on anyomne else's plans to host, but if you all are amenible, we would be thrilled to have you all come to newtown andpeek behind the curtain.

If we get approval from you all, we will begin figuring out the logistics.

Thanks,

Dan

How's Newtown fixed for accomodations?

If there's a project BR in that house, Joyce and I'd be happy there I guess...............as long as there's a project bathroom.  Don't worry about a project kitchen.  Do need another project BR for Mike and Susan O'donnell-they invited us into their cottage this past Fest and I'd like to repay the favor.

Does it have Wifi?

thanks.

We are in the process of remodeling the project bathroom, see it here:

Not sure you want to sleep in the Project house bedroom, though. In fact, I'm pretty sure that you do not.

Maureen has already compiled a list of accommodations. There shopuld be plenty of places to stay.

There is wifi all over the taunton 'campus'

The shots came out good I think-and I'd better email them to you or both you and I will be missing from the shot.

I did post the butts, but probably we should show their other side..............

The other one below is the full size w/o the headline.

This is the one with at least a partial (enough to tell the who) of every cat that herded into the photo line.  I'll see if there's others worth sending and email them to you.  Did you by any chance get a package recently?

Was Frank, Fred?

I don't think so.

But being dummer than a stump, beats me.

Hey Frank, are you Fred?

OK (post #206734, reply #75 of 146)

Called information and Frank is not Fred.

Now the question arises, are you going to be Frank?

i.e.=since I think this is just around the corner from you, what are your intentions?

Still fearing the horseshoe talents of my lovely wife?

If so, then you and your wife sign up, bring the kids, they're not kids anymore-they could drive.

And we'll settle this like gentlemen.

No?

2013 Fest at Taunton Press! (post #206734, reply #13 of 146)

Hi Breaktime Fest people! This is Maureen, Administrative Assistant for the Fine Homebuilding editorial department.

Dan and I have started working on the logistics for Breaktime Fest 2013. We're really looking forward to having the Fest here at the Taunton Press. Thanks to some terrific emails from Audrey about previous Fests and info posted about this past year's Fest from Mike, I think we're off to a great start with our planning for the next one.

But before we go much further, I'd like to hear from the loyal Breaktime Fest attendees as to which weekend in August would be preferred, the weekend of August 17th or the weekend of August 24th.

So please weigh in and let us know if either weekend works, neither weekend works, or if one weekend is better than the other for your. We will be happy to schedule Fest 2013 for whichever weekend will yield the biggest turnout of Fest attendees.

I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you next year. I love a great party and it sounds like you are the people to party with!

Maureen

Thanks Maureen (post #206734, reply #14 of 146)

The weekend of the 17th at this time is a good one.  Born on the 18th makes it a decent holiday both b/4 and after the fact.

Just a little info-these fests usually begin for real on Friday-that would make it the 16th or 23rd and tradition has it there's always some early birds................that puts another day in front of them.

So, still want a bunch of folks to plan for that?

Breaktime Fest 2013 dates (post #206734, reply #18 of 146)

We'll be looking forward to hosting all the Breaktime Fest-folk whenever they want to get here and for as long as they want to stay. The more the merrier and the longer the weekend the better. So yes, please let us know which dates, Thursday, August 15 through Sunday, August 18 or Thursday, August 22 through Sunday August 25, would be the preferred 2013 Breaktime Fest weekend.

Just let us know when you want to get this party started and we'll make sure the beer's plenty cold.

Maureen (post #206734, reply #19 of 146)

Here's an idea.

Make up one of those poll things so you don't have to keep changing postit notes with the tally.

thanks,

Maureen- Thanks to Taunton (post #206734, reply #24 of 146)

Maureen-

Thanks to Taunton for being willing to take this on.

I'm probably OK with either weekend.

Does having the fest at Taunton mean Dan won't be schlepping all the swag across state lines? And I hope there's a golf course nearby. Any staffers are welcome to get fleeced by Mike Smith & crew at golf.

Yes, it means that I will not (post #206734, reply #40 of 146)

Yes, it means that I will not have to schlep swag accross state lines. Yes, there is a golf course -- the Newtown Country Club is right accross the street from our main building, but the CC is member-only, and I'm pretty sure FHB editors are not on the list of those who may join. There is a public golf course in Southbury, I think, which is close to Newtown.

Dan Morrison

not on the list? (post #206734, reply #41 of 146)

for crying out loud, even the Masters course is allowing 2 women to join this year.  What's the story with that joint across the street?

We may have to ceremoniously lob a couple across the hiway.

Yep, there's a strange blob (post #206734, reply #47 of 146)

Yep, there's a strange blob at the bottom of the page that says "Newtown, CT", and nothing else.

And the left-side menu just disappeared.
