2014 Boston Fest

Mrs. StevenHB (sometimes referred to as SallyAB) and I had such a great time at the Taunton All-Forum Fest last summer that we'd like to host the Summer, 2014 Fest at our home in the south shore suburbs of Boston.  We're thinking August 8-10 but could be flexible if this date were generally unworkable for a large number of people.

We like to host parties - given my CooksTalk association, we'll plan on delivering an interesting menu (and we'll be recruiting some cooking friends to help).

There are, of course, all sorts of things to do in the Boston area. Depending upon your interests, there are a variety of sites to see:

  • Boston (~30 minutes)
  • Salem (~60 minutes)
  • Plymouth and Plimouth Plantation (~30 minutes)
  • Cape Cod (depends on exactly where you want to go)
  • Assorted beaches
  • Newport, RI (75 minutes, but many of you have been there)

How do you all feel about a 2014 fest in the Northeast US?

I've cross-posted this at the "Taunton Classic" fora.

Maybe we'll find direction, around some corner, where it's been waiting to meet us.

Sure thing, Joyce and I would plan on it.  What's the name of the town?

thanks.

It has been a long time since I graduated high school (was it?) with your wife.  She was a great classmate.  Nice to hear there'll be another reunion.

Trouble with these things for me is that I'm never sure whether it's work or pleasure. If it's work, well, I'd rather not do that on the weekends.

let someone else bring all the cheer from FHB............show up as John Svenson (there can always be more than one) and no one will be the wiser.

There are currently 85 days (post #208985, reply #10 of 27)

There are currently 85 days to the start of BostonFest 2014.  I'm looking for someone with a eye for design to help me review a logo (I have a draft that I'd prefer to keep mostly hidden for the moment).  Any volunteers?

Organized Tours? (post #208985, reply #11 of 27)

Ok Festers!  I have some questions for you.

I'm trying to organize a couple of organized activities.  I'm thinking of the following:

  • Brewery Tour - we have a bunch in the Boston area. There are some well-known breweries but there are also so less known like Night Shift Brewing
  • Boston Foodie Tours - there seem to be two companies that do these.  Possible tours would include:
    • BostonFoodieTours, for a group of 8-12 we'd have our own private tour. It might be possible to negotiate the scope/cost to some extent. Possible agendas, which we could do on Friday or Saturday:
      • Beacon Hill ($65pp)
      • Beacon Hill and Back Bay ($75pp)
      • North End (this is the Italian section of Boston) ($75pp)
    • Food Tours of Boston: prices start at $55 with a 10% discount for a group.  Possible agendas:
      • Seafood Tour (Friday)
      • Foods of the Freedom Trail Walking Tour - combining Boston food and history - 1.6 miles over 3 hours (Saturday)
      • North End - 1 mile over 3 hours (Saturday)

Do any of these interest you?  If so, which one(s)?

Yes. I thought that I'd ask only one question at a time, but here's our logo. I'm thinking about an apron, t-shirt, and golf shirt.  Open to other thoughts.

So the festers have left and I have a bit of cleanup to do.  It's a bit of a let-down.  We had a great time - all eight meals' worth.  I'll document a more thorough post mortem but I want to express Sally's and my great appreciation to everyone who came and everyone who helped out. In particular, the weekend wouldn't have been nearly as successful with Jet and Mrs. Jet, Bruce and Audrey.  Thank you both for everything that you contributed to BostonFest 2014.  Sally says that she's missing her "BFF" / girl-crush.
