Mt Rainier fieldtrip Crazylegs Fest

johnharkins's picture

current Ranger report Paradise, Mt Rainier

the meadows at Paradise are filled w/ washes of white avalanche lilies, clumps of beargrass, splashes of red Indian paintbrush and swaths of purple broadleaf lupine

I'm offering to take in my vehicle & as many as seven festers up to Paradise on any one of three days - Wed, Thur or Friday preceding the fest weekend - have National Park Pass so no one will have to pay admission
educated guess it is about 1 1/2 hour drive from Crazyleg headquarters to Paradise ( I could pick anyone up from lodging between my abode & Jim's house also )
Once up there ( 5000 plus feet elevation ) looking to lead a group on about a five mile circle hike including special viewing from Panorama Point
chance to see MtSTHelens, MT Hood, glacier, wooly marmots, wildflowers beyond what you might see in Alps, creeks w/ gardens alongside the Japanese can only aspire to achieve - it is flat out beautiful

and you can see all that and more if you just want to go for the ride without the hiking - beautiful just renovated National Park Inn, brand new nature center - very good maps so one can cut across & do one mile hike, two mile hike etc...

timeline might be depart Crazylegs central 9:30 am and be back 4:30 - 5:30 for dinner & ping pong with bretheren

Thinkin w/ travel / time constraints not too many are going to be able to partake so there is option of you KenHill & davidmeiland to load your bikes on bikerack & head up w/ us play around & ride / coast all the way down to Ashford or beyond

you will see more evergreen trees than you can imagine and climb to alpine region of Paradise above all the giants & see forever

you guys tell me when you want to go

I've summited Rainier several times.  For those who haven't been there, GO.

John, you can count Joyce and I in on this foray.

Whenever you say.

We're not bringing our clubs but if they rent them and Smitty and the plumber want to try and play-we'll do that too, but some other time.

So, that's what I got.

I don't own hiking shoes.

But I'm a cameraholic-show me the beauty.

are you two in town both Thur & Friday?
looking forward to it

I pretty much have to stay around the fest site that week, John, or I would love to go. I bet you'll get a good turn out.

Yup, we're showing up early to help the Blodgetts (or get in the way).  We owe them big time for the aid they gave us at Riverfest.

Debby and I would like to do this if you go on Friday. Sounds like a marvelous trip.

that sounds great Rich
because the committed only number four at this point
BigCalStew & you your better halves AND BigCalStew is wafflin in his golfing dilemma
would Thursday work for both of you & be just as much of a Go

thinking this through some more the Friday choice would better serve some other festers ( for our consideration )
Thursday maybe Crazylegs himself comes aboard

Rich: I'll address this to Calvin also

BigCalStew

Hey John - I am committing to staying at the home place for the duration, but our son and his sweetie will be here during the Fest and I bet they'll want to go.

Ok Jim sounds good
We'll give Rich & Calvin some time to chime in & fix a date

Whatever works John.  Golf can be snuck in or missed if need be.

Thanks for putting this together.

Our current plan is to spend Wednesday and Thursday in Seattle walking and taking the bus. And then rent a car Friday morning to come down to the Fest in time for your trip.

If you go on Friday, we're in.

If you go on Thursday, I don't know. Sorry.

I'll commit two for the Ranier gig.

I just got off the blower with Todd and they would really like to go if there's room, John. Don't let them bump anyone else, though.

We can make Friday, but we won't be there in time for a 9:30 AM departure on Thursday.

you can count on two seats
excellent

Friday it is
two seats for you

Senor Calvin
photo & other unlimited opportunities await you for Friday Rainier trip

are you two aboard?

I said it when you first put forth this venture, John.

You Bet!

Joyce and I are excited-we come from the flatlands of NW Oh.  Wouldn't miss this one.

Thanks!

golf will either have to wait, reschedule or add a morning.  Man, never thought I'd say that.

I mailed you through your Breaktime email
did you get it
concerns where meet up Friday morning
Calvin & I promoting Crazylegs house / you good w/ that?

Yes. That works great for us. What time in the morning?

Not too early, I hope.  I need my Ti Chi hour and to swim my laps before guests arrive.

So you're saying we should bring our swim suits?

would think 9:30am departure from Jim's
will run this by Jim & see how he feels

if our 100 degree days return we might want to boost to 8, 8:30 departure
I like the look of CU's weather report

I feel pretty good, John. Thanks for asking.

well it looks like we have a hiking party
I'm glad you're feeling good
did you pick up one of those wading pools?
feeling like they pulled the olde Northwest right out from under us substituted Tucson or something

and that works - rendezvous, coffee & muffins your place Friday morning 9 - 9:30am??
See you this Friday!
