RezFest Door Prize Table.............

calvin's picture

Ladies and gentlemen, I've got an idea and want you all to consider it...............those attending and those that can't.  Mike 585 had told me that there's some support coming from Dan Morrison over at Taunton, but I also know we can't expect the usual tonnage anymore.  Where we've been lucky in the past to conjure up all sorts of fine prizes to distribute, this year I think the economy can make a good excuse why some temper their generosity.  Still, some of us in the past have gotten extremely lucky when we put the touch on some of our local suppliers or even national companies that we've done business with.

So here's the proposal.  Those attending that can take the time to explain the function and it's history to any or all we do business with throughout the year should give it a try.  Over the years we've mentioned not in an advertising way, products or companies that have done us right.  Those that have gone the extra mile in making us not just run of the mill but a step or two above the rest of our competition.  In essence, silent partners to our businesses.  We've mentioned them because they are first rate, take care of their customers and stand behind their products.

If we can expand our team effort with those of you unable to attend, we just might fill that prize table.  What do you say we give it a try?

I'll start off by bringing some shirts and hats from PLS-Pacific Laser Systems.  This company has really supported us well in the past.  In addition, PLS has been forthcoming on answering the many questions we've asked over the years, while never doing so in a guerilla advertising sort of way.  I never have a problem recommending their tools, because they're quality and backed up by a good company.

In addition to the apparel, they have sent me the PLS-90 kit w/outdoor detector ( http://plslaser.com/ )  a precision 90 deg. layout tool.  Check it out.

Thanks Mike and PLS for your generosity.

Hey, Calvin-   Good idea. (post #190546, reply #1 of 29)

Hey, Calvin-

Good idea. I'll hit up my lumberyard and see if I can get some tee shirts and/or hats from them.

Maybe something from some of their suppliers. Its too bad we don't know anyone from Fein. The MM has certainly gotten enough publicity thru Breaktime over the years.

Since I've got your attention, what are we doing about golf? I believe we've got Friday available, but how many want to play?

You & Joyce, me, Mike Smith are all I can remember right now, although I kind of thought we were up to 6 or 7 at some point.

Hmm. Maybe Mike 585 could e-mail attendees and try to get a count. I don't mind making the tee times somewhere, but I'd like some kind of head count.

Yessir, get them prizes! (post #190546, reply #2 of 29)

Shep,

Here's what I'm gonna remember...................after a good nine and a couple quick ones after the round.

Joyce, Mike, You, Dustin, Fat Roman, Hubcap, ...................see, memory fading..............me...................

any other victims?

I've looked online-7day t-time resv.  but I suppose if a guy called the park course, we might be able to get some dispensation................

I thought we were going on a boat ride Friday, but 585 emailed me yestdy and mentioned saturday.

So yeah, Friday-hoping for 8am I'm thinking.  One could only wish that it will be like WABASH-might as well ask them for the key to the place so we get off in time.

So, what do you think about that?

One of my golfing buddies is vacationing in Saratga this week. He's supposed to bring a scorecard back so I can see  what the course(s) are like.

I won't know anything until the end of next week, but that still gives us enough time to make a decision.

Check the link that's on the Fest Page (post #190546, reply #7 of 29)

and you'll see the Park course.  Some photo's, the card with layout.  And 5 or 6 mentions of pace of play..................

No idea of other courses close to Mike and Susan's.

Boy, if we could only go back to Wabash.  What a casual pleasure.

About Fein? (post #190546, reply #3 of 29)

Geez, you'd think................wouldn't you?

I tried when we had it here........................nope, the one shirt they sent (that I sent back as it was for magilla gorilla) came two weeks later.

And that from their US hdqtrs..........Pittsburg I think.

So why not email them again for this one.  Gaudy it all up-god knows you can't provide a link to a bunch of posts about teh multimaster..................

THANK YOU! (post #190546, reply #24 of 29)

To those that took the time to pull this off.

Thank you big time to FineHomebuildingWebProducers (and other FHB personel) that brought the bags and plenty of tonnage to add to them.  There were some fine reading materials, the always welcomed FHB hats, a few pencils-that weren't back in the briefcase, and those quality tools that I assume were in those heavy Milwaukee and Bosch boxes.

PLS Laser Systems, who as is getting to be the norm-donated a fine precision instrument!  PLS-90 ..............along with a bunch of outter wear.

Mike Odonnell who in near panic that there might not be enough to placate the crowd (like the location, the dining, the drink and the boat ride weren't enough) went out and bought more bag stuffings.

Ralph = I'll bring something every fest = Wicklund-nice touch on the flashlights-made the night stroll to the latrine WAY easier for those that weren't prepared!

Jet-man, that's a big bottle of beer!  Not cracked yet, but the refill option was a nice touch!  Thanks for the additional stuff smuggled in!

I know I saw some Jersey things-I"m assuming Shep piled on some suppliers.  If I don't give you enough credit, my apologies-the random dropping of goods I didn't see enough to know!

Electric Tool and Equipment-Maumee, Ohio-my tool supplier for as long as I've been in this business-Thanks!

Gary Katz, and remember-his gifts included a plea for people to submit articles to This Is Carpentry (the online magazine)  http://www.thisiscarpentry.com/  This is a guy we all can talk to  (which those of you who have attended a workshop can attest).  If you've got something and can write (if that isn't a requirement-he'll help you out with that), please consider contacting them at the online mag and give it a shot.

The others I conned (sp?) into filling my trunk..............thanks again.

I know I missed someone or two I should be thanking, and I ask your forgiveness-but please accept my gratitude for making this a real good Prize Table!  Nicely Done!!  And let me know whom I'm forgetting-I'd like to include everyone.

In these economic times I was pretty darn impressed with the booty.  Those of you that won big (ger than some of us) I ask you to let those folks know how much you appreciate their donation.  I've been real lucky pulling in these prizes and can only attribute it to a couple things-my ability to bull [JOBSITE WORD] and never forgetting to thank those that come through.

Gracias.

Calvin-

you're the Man for getting all that swag for the giveaways. I don't know how you sweet talk your suppliers into giving all that stuff to us, but I'm not complaining.

OTOH, I should realize you'd be good at sweet talk. You did somehow convinced your lovely wife to marry you <G>

That's nice (post #190546, reply #10 of 29)

And if we could get Andy C to make the absolutely terribly long trek to just beyond his state capital he could bring that iron thing of Rez's.

Nah, that's probably impossible, being it's such a long trek and all.

So yeah, throw the bowl in the trunk.

Speaking of which, if you tell him (Andy) you're bringing the bowl............

he might just show up.

His only stipulation, ask the guys to think about writing an article for This is Carpentryhttp://www.thisiscarpentry.com/

Lessee-what else? (post #190546, reply #17 of 29)

What's the golf shaping up to be?

Joyce-good for nine on sat. morning.

Me-good for 18 fri / 9 sat.

What course?

ok, picked up some ins. drink holders from the plumbing supply, no big deal but already wrapped in the cellophane and scraggly ribbon.

Got an edge band clamp (usable for "other" by us one guy operations) from my plywood supplier.

Commitment from my tool supplier for a rotozip kit.

16' tape from the counter guy at the yard yesterday.

Anyone else get lucky or just bringing ?

thanks.

I have to stop by my (post #190546, reply #18 of 29)

I have to stop by my lumberyard and see what I can get out of them.

I also have to see who's playing and when, so I can make tee times. I know Dustin isn't able to play Friday, since he arrives sometime during the day.

So far, I know its you, me and Smitty for Friday. We 3, plus Joyce and Dustin for Saturday. I have to find out FatRoman's, Hubcap's, and Boat's plans.

That's my weekend project.

Here's what I know..........or don't. (post #190546, reply #19 of 29)

Hubs a no go...............ie, no come.

Fatty?

Ray (boats) ?

Make 1 at least for friday-18, two if you wanna cancel later.

Make 2 for 9 on Sat morn, make sure we can make the boat trip.

can cancel, but can't get what we don't have............but you know that.

And you know how goofy planning for a fest is.

Thanks!

OK (post #190546, reply #20 of 29)

Got the rotozip kit from my tool supplier-Electric Tool and Equipment.

Stopped at Toledo Plywood again-they tossed me another edgeband clamp-said one isn't good w/o it's mate.

I'm going to another yard tomorrow morning, doubtful they have anything but good lumber and a nice selection of trim.  Joyce won't let me haul that stuff in her car.

I also have something that could be sort of in the tradition category.  Diamond Dean gave me a big headed driver around Christmas.  Now I know all of us have one (or more), but do I remember Fatty playing with traditional woods?   ...............or is that a pipedream?  He'd be a good recipient if he's not the purist I'm thinking I remember.  If not, and we don't find another big [JOBSITE WORD] 'd headed driver challenged person in need-someone gets it-they use it if they wish, keep it if it's the best thing they got in their bag.............

or bring it back next year-in search of another victim.

I'll see if I can cajole the golf club outta something.

Roman isn't roamin' this (post #190546, reply #21 of 29)

Roman isn't roamin' this year- something about too much to do, daughter's birthday, etc.

For golf Friday I have you, me and Smitty. And Joyce. I think you said she just wanted to play Sat. But there's an opening if she's interested.

For Sat. I have the 4 of us, plus Dustin. I booked for 6, and am holding the reservation with my credit card. I'm hoping to find one more for Sat., but if not, the course said I can call and cancel any extra spots on Friday

Looks like a 3some (post #190546, reply #22 of 29)

for friday=she wants to hang with the babes

for Sat, if that makes 5, she'll leave the clubs at home.  But she thanks you profusely for thinking of her..

But in retrospect-there was a thread here not too long ago and the subject was "how to hang my bowed shower curtain rod sturdily".

That's what we got, from my hardware supplier-One hotel style bowed shower curtain rod (not telescoping-5' tub).
