Advice needed on building/attaching a Shed-roof to cinder block house
I have a single story ranch home in central FL built out of cinder block with stucco finish.
I want to put a shed roof over the pool equipment on the east side (gable side) of the house.
My plan is to attach a 2×10 ledger board to the house with lag bolts (advise welcome) and then frame out the roof with 2x6s. I’ll use three 4x4s for columns. The size of this roof will be around 14ft long by 6ft wide and with a 6:12 pitch. Standard asphalt/fibergalss shingles.
How do I flash the house to shed-roof joint? Do I need to cut a groove in the cinder block to inset the flashing with caulk? Or should I leave a gap between the house the legder board (like a building a deck) for the water to drain through?
Thanks

Hire It Out
I don't think your design will stand up to the required wind resistance standards. Your area has some pretty specific rules in that regard.
With the appropriate materials and methods, you can make a seal between the flashing and the wall with mastic, but recessing the flashing into the masonry is a better way.
It sounds like you plan to attach the new roof below the existing roof. If that's the case and you have a soffit you may or may not need flashing depending on how protected the joint is. I'd attached the ledger with Wedge anchors rather than lags as lags are more for connecting wood to wood. I also don't see a need for a 2 X 10 ledger if your rafters are only 2 X 6, 2 X 8 should be plenty. Make sure you use hurricane straps at both ends of your rafters. I'd make the beam from 2, 2 x 8s and use 6 X 6 post embedded in concrete in a hole 2' X 2' and at least 3 feet deep with 2 pieces of #5 rebar through the post below grade. The 6 X 6 will allow you to notch for the beam and bolt it in place.
That is a very helpful and encouraging reply.
Thanks.
Fair enough.
I wish I could find a competent builder/contractor.
