Cedar Shingles- Use Panels or fir out?
I’m planning to re-side my house in cedar. The current sheathing is Homasote, so siding right over top using individual cedar shingles is not an option unless I fir it out first. Unfortunately, if I choose to fir it out, I’ll also have to re-do the trim around all the windows since the firring will add at least and extra 3/4″. On the other hand, the panelized cedar is more expensive and has more waste. What would you do?

how deep is your trim? You'll likely need to do something with it anyway.
One option is to remove the homasote.
Another is to resheath over it with 3/8" plywood or 7/16" OSB and then shingle.
The panelized cedar siding will leak so applying it directly over the homasote would be a disaster.
I think (without seeing it of course) I'm back to removing the trims because you will need to flash to keep the water out.
Is the homasote buckleing?
