coring concrete (post #205630)

I need to drill  a couple of 4 inch holes in a concrete catch basin. I'm assuming the 8 inch thick walls have rebar in them. How much edge distance should I allow for a 4 inch hole in an 8 inch concrete wall to avoid cracking ? I'm leaning towards 12 inches, but not sure.

thanks,

I'm not gonna be any help............ (post #205630, reply #1 of 3)

but it might bring your question up top again.

Me?  I'd call Duffy Concrete Cutting and tell them to have at it.

The concrete drilling (post #205630, reply #2 of 3)

The concrete drilling contractors use a diamond hole saw. It cuts easily and clean. There isn't any significant vibration or shock to the concrete. It's not like they will be using a jack hammer.

Beat it to fit / Paint it to match

Contract it. (post #205630, reply #3 of 3)

I had two 3" holes cored in a foundation wall for $120. Could have been 4 or 5" holes and as many as five of them for the same price. I'm 45 miles from the nearest company that could do the work and I think they spent more in windshield time than they did on the job.
