Dimmable CFL - flickering at the top end of brightness?
Dimmable CFL - flickering at the top end of brightness? (post #206919)
netrate on Sun, 10/14/2012 - 14:59
I have recently installed a CFL compatible dimmer with compatible/dimmable CLF bulbs. I am having an issue because when they are at the highest brightness, the bulbs flicker. If I drop the brightness a little from the top, they stop. Is this an issue with
a) the dimmer switch
b) the bulbs
c) the fixture
NOTE : all CFL's are dimmable bulbs and the dimmers is CFL compatible.
Thanks in advance.

Pretty much all dimmable CFLs (post #206919, reply #1 of 5)
Pretty much all dimmable CFLs flicker, unfortunately. I'd suggest you replace them with dimmable LEDs. Not really worth fooling with dimmable CFLs anymore.

I wish I could, it is just too expensive still. I have a fixture with 5 lights. At $20 per light, that is way crazy.

The CFL compatible dimmers (post #206919, reply #3 of 5)
The CFL compatible dimmers I've installed are tuneable via a small dial on the side of switch, accessible from the front, under the cover plate (instructions came with the switch). Once I tuned them all I haven't had much of a problem.

Installing a single incandescent lamp in the bunch may help.

Thanks for the input.
There is no input on this or the other CFL dimmer I bought. Looked at both of them closely and nothing.
Adding the incadescent bulb helped, but there is still some shimmering.
