Hanging a prehung exterior door in concrete block
Hi guys,
I need to hang a new exterior front door in my house. The house was built in 1954 and all exterior walls are concrete block. I hung the back door, but it was a real pain. The existing door (which is original to the house) is 2x pressure treated jambs attached to the block, with the door hung in between them. If I remove the existing pressure treated jambs, I can fit a 3/0 prehung door. Does anybody have any tips to make this easier? I used tap cons on the back doir, but once you back them out, they’re useless. I could always put a 34″ prehung unit in between the existing jambs, but would like to stick to a 36″ door. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Tapcons
You can reuse the tapcon holes by putting some small gauge wire in the hole. I like the galvinzed picture hanging wire. Use some consttruction adhesive also.

Tapcons
Thanks for your tip, I'll give that a shot. Have you ever heard of anything called tru loc? Some guy was telling me to use it to hang the door in masonry. I can't seem to find any info about it though.
Never heard of tru lok. There are many ways to attach wood to CMUs. All thread with epoxy, the big Hilti screws, Red Head makes a bunch of stuff or the lead shield anchors. Just use some Tapcons and PL or Liquid Nails and you will be fine. In the old days when I start out we would use concrete nails that held fine.

Thanks KK, I'll try one of those methods. Wish me luck!
