Hardiplank efflorescence – tips for removing it?
A few years back I was in the process of re-siding my house with pre-finished hardiplank. I was about halfway done when the family business hit hard times, so I spent all my time at work from then until now. I don’t have a garage, so the hardiplank was under a tarp. About 1/3 of it got wet and developed efflorescence.
I’ve tried to scrub it off, which hasn’t been successful. Any thoughts on a solvent or cleaner that might help? Please tell me I don’t have to paint half the house! 😀
Personal note: For what it’s worth, I’ll finish my story and add that my parents were able to sell the family business (which was a sole proprietorship with everything they owned as security) just as it was on the cusp of bankruptcy. They are retiring now, and I’m unemployed. . . I’ve had bigger things to worry about than a bit of chalky siding, LOL!

I would assume that it's similar to efflorecence on masonry, and a mild acid would help remove it.
