I’m getting ready to install 4×8 and 4×10 Hardiepanel smooth vertical siding over some aged painted smooth plywood siding. I’ve installed Hardiepanel once in new construction, and placed doubled studs where vertical joints would fall. I will be using a pneumatic nailer to set the nails flush. This is two story construction. Anybody have any installation tips for someone who is not a newbie to construction of all types, but who has used Hardiepanel rarely?
Oops – looks like this belongs in the construction techniques section – my mistake.

The last issue of FHB #197 pg 44 talks about horiz siding and moisture issues delaminating the products. This was interesting to me since I just finished a job with a mix of lap and full sheets.
Stripping out the wall to create an air space makes a lot of since and had I thought about it I might have done that, I intend to in the future.
I did back prime all of it, front and back, even though my partner thought it wasteful, maybe it was. But reading that this stuff might delaminate due to moisture penetration from the back surprised me and made me glad I had at least primed.
We nailed ours as well with a pnuematic.
