I'd probably use sheathing tape, but it's a bitch to work with. Don't use Red Green style duct tape.

Not clear why you'd worry about taping the facing -- you don't need a vapor barrier.

I'm still trying to understand the tape the seams of what I assume as batt you mean fibreglass batts?
Also assume the batts are faced. I understand taping rips tears or punctures in faced fibreglass......but never heard of seams being taped. But then again, I've used 8'batts that were faced-but the only 4'batts (unfaced) were used in commercial drop ceilings.
