I am in the process of installing four 17 ft tall 24″ diameter (approx weight 400lb) wood columns for a porch. I have given all this some thought, but know that others have better ideas to share. The columns will support a second story porch floor with railing.
- How to get upright without heavy equipment?
- should steel plinths be attached to column bases prior to uprighting?
- How to “notch or inset” the floor joists into the 4 columns ( I assume you cut a slot or pocket into the middle of the column to put the 2x into?)
Thanks for the input.
