Modifying PEX pipe loops in concrete in slab heat
I need to enlarge an existing bearing pad in a garage slab containing loops of PEX pipe for hydronic heat. The perimeter of the new footing will be saw cut so the pipe will have nice clean ends flush with the concrete. How do I reconnect the PEX loops – is there a push in barbed coupling for this or is it carefully expose enough of the pipe ends for couplings and crimp fittings?
Thanks

sounds like a leak in the works but... if you must you must.
I would not use crip style if your putting it back in concrete. i would use propex fittings, all non metalic coupling fitting and sleeves. the problem is the expander needs to be able to expand the pipe that is cut flush with the concrete. you need 3/4'' (i think) of pipe to expand so that the fitting will go in properly.
Thanks Mark122 - not much choice.
hePEX Oxygen barrier tubing
Make sure you use hePEX tubing. The fitting needs to be brass also. Propex clamps are nice, but the stainless crimp rings will be just fine. Don't use the copper bands, they will fail in concrete. It will depend on the tools available to you. Propex expanders are more expensive than crimping tools if you have to buy tour own.
Be careful exposing the tube ends too. I have had to go twice as far to get good pipe because of a tool slip at the wrong time. Don't take chances with "only nicked". You don't want to go back again.
Good luck!
I wonder if one couldn't use a coring bit to cut around the tube.
And if a concrete cutting service is being hired to do the major cuts they may have some techniques they can employ.
