Mooney wall corner detail for drywall? I am constructing a 2×2 Mooney Wall system in a single room (art studio) inside a barn. The walls are 2×6 rough-sawn spaced 24″ o.c. with 2″x2″ horizontal strapping spaced 16″ o.c. My question is, what do I do in the room corners to support the corner drywall? The images I can find look like there is no verticle nailing surface for the drywall at the corners. Is there a problem with the drywall joint cracking or opening? I was considering including verticle 2×2 between the horizontal strapping at the corners, installed with screws and glue…. is this necessary or worth the extra time? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Mooney nor Smitty are around anymore, but here's my take on seeing and maybe knowing something about the mooney wall.
use drywall clips if you're concerned in the corners.
or
step back off the corner a bit and install your verticals to your furring so there's no contact with the original framing. Use a first coat of Durabond in the corner taping. Should be no problem.
hope that helps a little, if not
let me know and I'll call Mike Smith and plead he come back and give his opinion verbatim from the horses mouth.
Clips and step back
Hey Calvin, great advice, thanks. I recently saw a video where they used outside metal corner bead as drywall support on an inside corner. If corner bead was screwed verticallly to the 2"x2"s in the corners before hanging the drywall it could provide additional support for the joint. I expect I will experiment with a combination of all of these.
Thanks again!
