Tomorrow I have to put up the other two opposing sides of the rafter jacks I had installed today. Instead of running a 5& 1/2-12 rafter to a 5& 1/2 -12 valley. Now I have to Run a 9-12 rafter to a 5& 1/2 valley. How is this done by math? just a note: The 5 1/2 rafters ridge is 1/2″ lower then the 9/12’s
Will the top of the rafter be @ 9/12 and and the bottom of it @ 5& 1/2 or both sides @ 5& 1/2 pulse how can I find out the running length per foot?
I can do it by strings and a tape if nothing good comes to mind once you have two your home free! I hope you make me faster my wife has about had it with the building of our house The Harv

I wake up today thinking I will get a pool of thoughts....but none to be read....oh well
Honestly, harv - It annoys me a little when people complain that they don't get instant answers on this forum. (You aren't the first) We all have lives too, and are offerring free advice here when we have time. Be a little patient.
It might help if you explain your question better. What math do you want? Sounds like you're running a 9/12 roof onto a 5.5/12 roof. Is that correct?
If so, the valley rafters would have a 9/12 plumb cut at the ridge and a 5.5/12 flush cut on the bottom.
If you're rtying to figure out exactly how long each piece is, I wouldn't. You can figure all day on paper and they won't necessarilly fit in the field. String your ridge board so it's straight, and then measure each rafter length.

Hey thanks for your time and wisdom. I was not trying to complain. Just woke up and checked to see if I got a bite or two but there was none and with my post was well down on the totem poll. I figured that was a clever way to put it back in eyesight of one who might be able to help. It worked I found you! I'll take the hand slap that comes with it cause you helped! I kind of took it as complaining too.
Two reasons I didn't reply, well maybe three.
I knew that Joe Fusco can explain this one better than most of us so I was waiting. Maybe you can search him out and link to his site. There are some things that I can do better than I can explain. I would just confuse you.
And you seemed to want the help immediately in the first post. I get that all day long from folks who want it done yesterday.
I guess we all just misunderstood, Hope to be able to help out sometime in the future.
