I have just recently started getting Fine Homebuilding again, as welll as being online. So when I got my latest copy of F. H., and read the article on replacing a porch post, I did a double take on the article, and thought it was a joke. Do you seriuosly recommend temporarily nailing a post in place to locate the footings?? Dont you own a plumb bob??????

When all else fails, use duct tape!
