I’m replacing the header in a 5 foot opening into our breakfast room to gain additional height and because that’s what the wife wants……..
The new header will be up against the two top plates and this will make the existing jack plates too short. Can I add 2×4 and nail to the king studs and fill in the void to get the jack stud height needed or would I be ahead to just cut those out and install new jack studs?
I don’t want to do anything that might alter or cause issues with the load being transmitted down the jack plates and to the concrete foundation.
Just curious.
Image of the existing and proposed header is below my signature, click to view full size.
Thanks for all and any advice!

I don't personally see a problem with it, nuless for some reason the header is carrying a whole lot of weight.
But - If you're going to have a framing inspection, you need to ask your building inspector.
question regarding jack studs
I personally dont like jack studs that are pieced together. They are cheap enough to replace with new ones.
Jacks/trimmers in a load bearing wall should be continuous from sole plate to header.
