About 50 years ago, the previous owner of my 275 year old house in central Connecticut excavated the crawl space into a basement. He accomplished this by adding about two feet of brick on top of the existing stone wall.
I noticed a few days ago that a brick had worked its way out of the corner. I also noticed the corner had sunk about a ¼” and that the bricks had no mortar on them – they were held in place by the parged cement on the inside and outside of the foundation.
So, my question: do I hire a mason, a foundation company, or do I mortar the bricks and reparge over the corner?
(I tried uploading some photos, but the website wouldn’t accept them)

these kinds of things could be big deals...could be nothing. if you or any of your friends know any reputable contractors I would say give'm a call and have him look at it. doesnt sound like anything to be worried about but...much better to get eyes on the thing and make sure its not something that is failing.
