Rigid tie connector – (2)4×10 on 4×6
Guys I’m definitely in over my head and hopefully my question doesn’t insult anyone. I’m building a efficiency dwelling (think small 200sq ft house) in an area where lumber selection is limited – no 2×12, 2×10, or 6×6.
I’ve got a 4×6 post that I’m trying to set two 4×10 beams on as solidly as possible on their edge(hurricane and earthquake prone area).
I’ve sketched a few cuts where I notch the 4×10 so they at least get equal seating on the 4×6 but I’m still not a fan of it. Right now I’m looking at the Simpson strong-tie RTC44 but know the second I commit someone will tell me about something better/stronger/shinier.
How about it guys, better recommendations out there?

you forgot to upload the sketch of what your attempting.
Bolt 2x6s to the sides of the 4x6s, using carriage bolts. Arrange these so they enlarge the "shoulders" bearing the beams.
Exactly how you should notch the beams and/or posts, I don't know. On our deck we notched the face of the post facing the end of the beam about an inch (plus the 2x below), then set the un-notched end of the beam into that, further secured with straps. But this is not an "earthquake-prone" area.
