I have just completed a post and beam screen porch for a client. Corner posts are 6×6 and intermediate posts are 4×6. Exterior face of posts are clad with a 1x Azek piece that overhangs posts by 1″ on each side. This 1″ provides a stop for the screen panels that are mounted on the inside.
My issue is that the access door, housed between two 4×6’s , must be an inswing. Due to this I cannot use traditional storm door closers and am frustrated in terms of finding a solution to have the door softly close. I realize that I can utilize a spring but I really dont want that slam that will happen with each opening.
Any ideas?

The only idea I can come up with is to make it an outswing. You could back up the (3/4") Azek to be the thickness of a wood screen, then screen door butts would work. From the inside-you'd only see the difference of the stops for the door (another built up pc of azek, laminated to the backside). Then the usual hydraulic closer.

Find a sort of "Pot" closer-mount that to the inside. Yale used to make them for screens (doubtful they or others still do).
Why is it that you "must" make the door inswing and exactly what kind are you talking about-wood or aluminum?
thanks.
Don't put a closing mechinism on it at all. We live with most of our exterior doors without closers, why must there be one on a screen door?
But if you must have it self close..... How about hanging it out of plumb a bit? Gravity will swing it shut.
Why can't you use a "traditional storm door closer"?
We usually use an interlock threshold for inswing screen doors.
The interlocking hook provides a mesquito barrier and a measure of "soft close" to the entry door. If you want additonal cushion, you can set your hinge routes back to allow for bulb or adhesive foam weatherstripping on the jamb. If you want to add a self close feature, then add an appropriately guaged spring to exterior head jamb and door.
