Shingling under a deck?

PenobscotMan's picture

I'm cedar shingling a wall of our house (coastal Maine) which has a deck.  What should I do under the deck?  There is about 16 inches of wall under the deck, presently 1/2 ply covered by Typar.  It's not very visible, so it seems inappropriate to shingle it (not to mention awkward).  But I should cover that Typar with something.  What?

In less weather-sensitive (post #215440, reply #1 of 1)

In less weather-sensitive locales I'd consider some cheap hardboard siding, or T1-11, or some such.  In your case probably good grade exterior plywood.  Paint before installation.
