spraying new mdf cabinet doors with lacquer
help! i want to spray raw mdf cabinets doors with white lacquer to achieve a cost-efficient alternative to those super-sleek european-style lacquer finishes found on some high-end kitchens. is it as simple as starting with a coat of clear lacquer followed by a couple coats of white lacquer and finished with another coat of clear lacquer? what gives it the rich white colour? do i prime with a regular paint first? what products should i use? in the past i have had pretty good results with alkyd enamel underbody as a primer underneath a high quality oil-based paint but this time i would like to try lacquer.
p.s. i am in vancouver, b.c., and use a lemmer hvlp turbine system
thanks!

Light toned primer followed by tinted clear.
The depth of the finish is developed by a light toned primer, or a white bottom coat, and then several layers of heavily tinted clear, about a 50/50 mix of clear and white. Finish with a top coat.
Look up ML Campbell in your area. http://www.mlcampbell.com. They have a product called ClawLoc. That's the primer. For topcoat u can use Agualente pigmented lacquer, it's a water-based product. Or you can go with the solvent base they carry.
