Jerrald,
I’m about to hire someone to teach me how to do wreath work. I have a number of books on stairs but few show wreath work. I have Moats book but frankly can’t follow the diagrams. This guy uses what he calls the fall-line method of work. At what I’m paying I’d like to have a running start. Any suggestions on what other books I might get?

by George R. Di Cristina. It is a simplified guide to a very complicated difficult subject. Very technical, math, trig, and geometry oriented but it really covers the Built-up Tangent Handrailing Technique well. This is my stair & railing bible but it's not for the faint at heart but it sounds as though you are pretty serious about the subject so I think you'll love it.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like it time to start reading.
mathewson as I am sure you are probably thinking being able to do stairs and railing well is a great way to differentiate yourself from the crowd being able to do wreath and serpentine railing work is a really really huge. It's a great direction to take in these tough competitive times.
By the way have you discovered StairPorn.org yet? It's a great place to go to get ideas and inspiration. If you send any potential clients there for ideas make sure they keep in mind that not everything they see there conforms to all the current code requirements here in the U.S. This is one of my recent favorites (click it):

Very neat... what other sites you got bookmarked?http://www.tvwsolar.com
I went down to the lobby
To make a small call out.
A pretty dancing girl was there,
And she began to shout,
"Go on back to see the gypsy.
He can move you from the rear,
Drive you from your fear,
Bring you through the mirror.
He did it in Las Vegas,
And he can do it here."
I've got a lot of stuff both URLs filed away on my desktop and RSS feeds I keep track of via Google Reader. I have to put together that list and publish it. Not tonight though. I'm just about ready to head out for the evening. I'll be in touch and get back to you though. Whatcha got (URLs) to trade?

Wow - that's a cool stair site!

Great link.
You are right that being able to do stair work separates you, but my interest in transitioning into full-time stair work started before the downturn. I was never very happy with off-the-shelf selections. I knew the kind of work I wanted to produce and now it appears I may have found someone who can teach me how to make it.
