VERY interesting. Thanks. I'm into backpacking and always intersted in anything that reduces weight.
I have not seen any clothes or sleeping bags/pads that utilize aerogel, but the Website seems to show that it's being done.

I just sent an inquiry looking for price information. R9.6 per inch is pretty spectacular.

I know that it is slated to be used as building insulation. I heard of some projects that were going to test in for building insulation. I've no idea what form it takes, what it looks like, how it's installed, etc. This is supposed to be 'the next big thing in building insulation'.
We shall see .... price, R-value, construction practicality, etc.
Personally I'm for the vacuum insulated construction ... just kidding ... you can have it, though.

Where they pulled all their insulation out and attached a couple dust collectors to the hollow stud bays. Vacume insulation is the wave of the future!

Aerogels (post #191821, reply #3 of 7)
This can be very expensive stuff. If it is similar to the gels I researched last year, it is only for those that have much money to use on their buildings. I wish I could afford it.
