it's usually pipes rubbing against wood.  Trace the pipes and see where the rubbing is coming from. Then slide some plastic  around the pipe whereever it rubs and the moaning should go away..

However you need to wait untill friday..

Nice scary sound for holloween <grin>

The sound usually comes from the toilet valve. To test it, lightly press in the float, it should then make the same noise. Pressing it down into the water and let it pop up will not produce the same noise.
Getting a new Fluid Master will solve the problem.

Definitely a toilet valve.

I get the moaning sound only (post #115452, reply #4 of 5)

I get the moaning sound only when I flush the toilet and when the water to the toilet has just stopped running.  I was also thinking this was air in the pipes, because if I turn on the cold water to the sink the sound stops or does not make the sound if I turn the sink on prior to the sound.  You can feel the vibration in the facet handle.

It's resonance in the plumbing, with the toilet valve serving as the "lips" of the whistle.  Running the cold water reduces the pressure and introduces some damping.

We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Nature's inexhaustible sources of energy -- sun, wind and tide. ... I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that. --Thomas Edison
