Receptacles in PVC column?
Receptacles in PVC column? (post #185471)
FR on Sun, 02/28/2010 - 14:36 (updated 02/28/10 - 02:16)
Guys,
I'm wrapping pt 4x4s porch columns with 8 inch pvc column wraps. Can the receptacles be mounted directly into the pvc or do they have to be mounted onto the 4x4s with a box extender out through the PVC? I wasn't sure if fastening the box to the pvc was ok. PVC is 5/8".
Thanks for your input.

I can't see any reason not to (post #185471, reply #1 of 1)
I can't see any reason not to mount the box to the PVC wrap except if you want to limit stress on the PVC wrap itself. PVC holds screws pretty well.
I would probably attach a scab onto the post to screw the box into if you're worried about stress on the wrap.
