Has anyone used Tu-Tuf Vapor Barriers? I’ve seen them mentioned a couple times in various Taunton publications (for example: Insulate and Weatherize by Bruce Harley).
Is http://www.energyfederation.org/consumer/default.php/cPath/21_933_68
the only place to purchase it?
And what support products are you using with it; sealing the seams with, sealing it to the foundation walls, etc??
I thinking of using it to seal the dirt floor of a crawlspace.

Hey JohnT8
I'm in the process of installing Tu-Tuf as a vapor barrier in a crawlspace that had a terrible ground water problem. I removed the flooring, installed corrugated tiling and a sump pump. I put down 2-3 inches of pea gravel and am installing the Tu-Tuf now. The material is tough enough to withstand walking on it (although carefully), I'm sure the pea gravel helps alot. I'm sealing the material to the foundation walls with foam insulation adhesive which seems to work well and will seal any joints in the Tu-Tuf with Tyvek tape or equivalent. I'm about finished with the first section of the house but so far, I'm pleased with the stuff.I got the Tu-Tuf from the people below.http://www.positive-energy.com/pages/SealingAirBarriers2.html

I don't know yet if my application will require a sump.
How did you integrate the sump in? Does the TT run up and seal around the sump pit?jt8

I left the sump pump discharge pipe sticking up about 6 inches above the sump lid and cut a hole in the Tu-Tuf just big enough to slip over the discharge pipe and power cord. I'll seal around the pipe/cord with tape. Obviously, someday I'll probably have to cut a larger opening when the pump eventually quits, but I'll carefully cut the material and then reseal when finished. (Or so I think).
In my case, I had standing water until I put in the tile and pump. In the several months I've had the floor opened up and the tile, pump and pea gravel in place, the crawl space has been puddle free, although dampness still is present below I'm sure. I'm counting on the well sealed vapor barrier to take care of the dampness issue. The house is not inhabited at this time obviously so I'm able to watch and see if the drainage system works.
