beadboard wainscot install

tuanj's picture

I'm working on a small retirement home for my folks and we've installed 7/16" OSB (rough/lined side out) to use as backing for 3/16 mdo beadboard. Fasteners top and bottom can be easily hidden with rail/molding and baseboard but what to do with the middle is a poser. We have to use an adhesive (preferably something which won't kill all remaining brain cells) I'm guessing, possibly in conjunction with 1" brads or similar. I know there's a contact cement which would probably obviate the need for brads but with something like a construction adhesive, we'd probably still need to brad it, at least in a few places.

We have no problem filling brad holes but it's thin material and we're concerned about it pulling off the wall in the middle. Any and all advice appreciated.

PL PREMIUM will glue anything to anything.  Smell isn't too bad.  There's run out of the tube so get your pcs cut and ready, lay tube on a pc of cardboard to catch the extra. Apply that to the wall with a stick to save waste.  You can pin in the tongue till set.

Titebond I think advertises a urethane glue that doesn't creep out of the tube.  I've never used it.
