Im having trouble getting the threaded fittings to seal on a ball valve. There are 1 inch pipe thread fitting into the valve,,, its on a well line, that has inch nipple fittings going to black poly pipe/hose. I keep getting a VERY small drip show up… Ive tightened with pipe wrenches, used GASOILA as a thread sealant. How tight should I turn the fittings? thanks

with brass or plastic fittings overtightening can be a problem I recommend rectorseal as a sealant
thanks, ill pick up a new set of fittings and valve tomorow, and try again,, with rectorseal.
and with my large arm muscles I had to learn to not over tighten steel fittings too...
Funny
I had exactly the same problem on my well. Get this - the brass fitting was porous! I never woulda thunk it, but the water just sort of oozed through the metal in the near the outermost couple of threads. Replaced the fitting and problem solved. I kept it as a conversation piece though. Maybe I need to get out more often ...
Bad pourous fitting - I've seen the same thing - really a bummer!
Try teflon thread tape. might save you from having to buy new fittings

Try using teflon tape and then use rectorseal on top of that. For really big fittings you can use lampwick in the threads in addition to the teflon and rectorseal in make a tight seal.
here is why.... they are made using a sand casting process. Someimes the fittings have microscopic pinholes in them making them look like they are seeping through. Pain in the rear!
That's why somebody suggested RECTORSEAL.
Am I the only one who thinks that Rectorseal sounds disgusting? Sounds like a cure for a lower intestinal disease from a Austin Power movie.
