Hopefully I can ask this ? in a concise nonconfusing way: I am getting ready to instal laminate flooring in our entryway to the house. I have a coat closet/cabinet type thing which I wanted to butt up against one of the corners on a raised platform and then wrap the baseboard around & use other trim to close gaps to give it a “built in” look. On the opposite wall I was going to add an entryway bench butted into another corner.
My question is this: With the laminate flooring you use spacers to leave a gap so the flooring has room to expand & shrink, with the installed baseboard hiding this gap. Any recomendations as to wether I can first install the flooring and then add the platform the coat hutch will stand on and also the entryway bench, or should I install the platform on the subfloor and install the bench, use the spacers, and then install the flooring? I really have no idea, but was leaning towards the second option. Thanks all…

I would build your platform first and install the flooring to it.
