My wife and I are building a half log home using white cedar. There was quite a bit of left over cedar from the frame construction and we were thinking that these cedar half logs might look nice as interior trim around the ceiling to floor windows in windows in our great room. However, we’re not sure if this is a good idea. The logs have been stored outside, stacked on end without cover for about three years. Our plan was to ensure they were dried thoroughly, plane them down slightly, and treat and stain them. Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing? We’re obviously concerned about infestations and bringing mold and mildew and their associated problems into the house.
