I am working with a builder to design a custom home. In the initial plans, the builder put the bedroom closet entrance off of the bathroom instead of the bedroom. In other words, you have to go through the bathroom to get to the closet.
This layout is new to me. My grandmother’s house from the 50s, parents’ 90’s house, and my 00’s house all have the closet doors in the bedroom.
With the closet in the bathroom, there is a concern that there is more area that will get humidity from a shower.
With the closet off the bedroom, the closet door takes up wall space that could host a dresser, etc.
What layouts have you seen, and are there any reasons for one over the other, for the builder or the user?
note: this is for a second room, not the master.
Thanks,
Ted

I've seen a handful of house plans like that. Never have lived anywhere that had the master closet off the master bath.
I do have one friend with a house like that. He said he likes getting out of the shower and going in to the closet to get dressed.
If you have an HVAC system with a supply air in the closet I think it would keep things reasonably dry.
My closet is in the bedroom but my wifes is in the bathroom. Works fine for us.
We put the door to the master closet outside the bedroom, between there and the master bath so one prerson can get dressed without waking the other.
I did one house where the master bedroom exited to a short hall. The hall had direct access to both the living room and a massive master bath (which served only the master bedroom). At either end of the bath was a room-sized closet; one for 'him' and one for 'her,' Closets featured extensive 'organized' storage and various dressing tables, dressers, etc.
The master bath also had a closet of it's own, and the toilet was in a tiny room of its' own.
The couple seemed to like the arrangement.
I'd also note that this couple had very specific lighting requirements for the bedroom. The main idea was: I want it dark on my side of the bed, while my wife likes to stay up reading. They also wanted a big-screen TV and surround-sound. All very 'do-able,' if a bit unusual.

Wink, Wink nudge nudge They were shooting movies on her side of the bed.

Past the toilet to get into master closet
My brothers house is like this, you have to walk through the bathroom and past the toliet to get into the master closet!!!
IMO: very bad layout!!!! If someone is on the toliet, the closet is landlocked!!!! Or if someone just left the toliet, ........
