Ask your LOCAL inspector about that.
Here, we are divided into a lot of small municipalities, and they all have different restrictions. Some allow it, while others don't. This makes it a local issue because everyone here goes by the SBCCA code, with local variances. It is the local variances that get ya.

*Johnny, something to think about with eave dumping of exhaust. With vented soffit, what goes out might come back in with airflow that wants to enter and exit out the roof vents.
*and stay as far away from windows as possible. Jeff
*The problem is: I got a new metal roof and cannot figure how to exit the roof without creating a leak.
*They make a vent that you can install in your eaves. I don't know where you would find one but Lowes or Home depot should have one. I never thought of the venting over a window thing but it makes perfect sense.
*Johnnie: they also make a steel roof vent exhaust that seals and vents away from potential intakes. Check American Aldes - they advertise in FHB.Don
*Fantech has what you need.
*can vent it through the wall at a gable end.brian
*Gentlemen. The codes say only that the fan must be exhausted to the exterior Calvin's advice is worth heeding. Brian'advice is good. However, make sure the duct is insulated and loped down toward the gable end. The insulation reduces the chances of condensation. Should condensation form it will drain downward and out because of the sloping ductwork.GeneL.
*We still use the '97 UBC here in Western Washington. Any exhaust fans have to be at least 4 feet horizontally or below, or 1 foot above, any opening window.
