I just returned from a workshop with John Economaki at Mark Adams’ School. He did a very exclent job of demonstrating the Graphite (CAD) and one other upscale program. Cobra, I believe. Both are far more than I need or want and both are rather expensive. I am looking for a less expensive program for cabnets, floor plans, etc. Any ideas I might consider? Thanks. Ed

Ed,
This sounds like you just need to replace the old wooden drwing board. The expensive programs attempt to give you renderings and bill of materials and all that. But all you need - and what you can get cheaply [perhaps even a free download] - is a basic drafting program. The one I stumbled across is TurboCad Designer for $50. It has layers, colors, filleting, chamfers, dimensioning, hatch patterns and so on. Check out imsi.com. [That's probably not a hyperlink, just a prospero imitation] I'm sure there's plenty of stuff out there and maybe other's can suggest more things.

I'd be willing to go up as high as the $200+ range. Ed
Do the search for TurboCAD then. I think they still have a free 2D program out there. Once you download it and register, they'll send you "special offers" to upgrade at under a hundred.Excellence is its own reward!
If you want something real simple and very easy to use try Deltacad.com. Use is very intuitive, can download it from web, and they give a 45 day tryout period. Best part? About $35.00
