Looking for help to calculate custom floor joists ( 2 wood types and dimensions or wood + steel joist ). Preferable with knowlage of North Carolina building codes.

I would pay the $700 for a local structural engineer to provide the answer and a spec sheet. Helpful for dealing with the local building permit people.
Then you can decide on what to use for the joist depending upon the available head space. Where it is limited a steel beam is optimum.
