Time to put real stairs down to the basement. The joist that will carry the top of the stringers will need to be tripled up. It’s a 8′ 2×8 and there are several wires drilled through the existing joist at about a third of the length and about 2″ from the bottom. I’d rather not mess with cutting and splicing the wires. What techniques have others used to get around existing bores? Any experience with cut-outs, notches, gussets, dutchmen, splines? Which adhesives are recommended?
