How bad of an idea is it to install a ductless/recirculating range hood?
To consider:
- Gas stove
- Stove top receives limited use (1-2 weekends a month, more in the summer).
- Older house
There’s no hood at the moment (and there never was, at least not with the owner of 30 years prior to our purchase). There’s an interesting aside, though- somewhat above the stove– but definitely not centered over it– there’s a vertical boxed in section of the overhead cabinet, almost like some kind of vent existed at one point. Maybe for a wood burning stove?

I've never quite understood the point of the ductless fans. I suppose if you fry lots of greasy stuff the fan filter catches some of that grease, but it does little for odors and smoke, nor does it remove cooking humidity.
