That's a configuration I considered when we were building our deck about 28 years ago. Settled instead on a clamp-on guide made from bits of aluminum stock. (I actually ran across it in a bin of odd tools last week while redecking the lower level.)

That's too bad. You follow the link to the video where the saw and the cut-off piece are only held by one clamp. As they swing loose with the blade spinning there's lots of blood and gore all over the place.

As soon as he reaches the end of that cut, that blade will bind and those clamps will be everywhere, including a finger.
Of course, the saw likely can't cut a 4x all the way through.

You did the right thing. I suffered though the boring slide show and the slide after the pic posted here was only a pic of all the cut
off posts. If they were selling anything I never got to it.
