I wish to install a half-round window into a brick arch. There will be a door below it, which is a straight-forward install, but how do you go about rough-framing on a tight arch(42″W/ 21″ radius)?

Let's hope so. . .
The arch already exists.

The arch is solid brick. It has not previously been enclosed, so there is no previous nailing surface (except for the brick and mortar itself). I wish to "bump out" the living room to meet three such arches. The openings are 42"w x 8'8"h to the middle of the arch. There is plenty of room for a 36"w x 80"h door and window above the head jamb, right?

It is not only similar but exact, except that there are three arches. Thanks for your interest and help...
CESARNICOLAU,

Yes, I suppose 3" could be ok. I could span the gap with dental moulding or something of the like...
go on...

I had not considered framing to the inside of the room, so I thank you for your suggestion. It may actually be the best plan for me. But just so I know, is there anyway to frame within the confines of the brick arch?

Thanks a million. The arch is 8" thick (the width of a brick). I'm not sure which way I'll approach this but both are much appreciated. I read your profile and saw that you are down on S.I. I used to live in Mad-hattan. Now I live upstate. I wish you were more local to me as I am looking for a master carpenter to apprentice for. Thanks again

Sorry, I posted before I finished writing.
I haven't bought the window units yet, although one salesman told me that you just buy custom made halfround windows and slip them into the space above the door. Sounds expensive. I guess one could just nail the window to the door header and glue the curved part of the window to the brick with construction adhesive, but is there a better way?
