I need to buy a quantity of standard size single french door lites, for 10 lite doors. The only places I have found quote custom glass at about $20 per pane. At that rate I could buy doors and take them apart. Any of you have any suppliers? I haven’t had a chance to shop locally yet.

go local
I imagine you're looking for tempered IG (insulated glass). I think your best bet is to get your local glass company to order these to your exact size and thickness. That's what I do for doors and skylights. For me, it takes 7-10 days to get that type of glass. IMO, it's not that expensive.. or worth trying to hunt for a supplier that carries a stock size that will fit.
As for buying a new door and pillaging it for glass? That's an interesting idea that may (if you're lucky) get you your glass immediately, but seems like a waste of perfectly good wood and millwork nomatter what the price.
More info.
I should have been more specific. I want to use them for shelves in a custom cabinet. I'm not concerned about the exact size. The edges of ordinary tempered glass are acceptable so they won't have to be polished. I need at least 40. I'm sure that a door shop doesn't have to buy custom glass for a standard door.
Somebody has to cut float glass at some point.
That makes "custom" glass relative for just about any shop.
If you don't think so, then what is the standard size glass for a french door that a door shop would keep in stock? I've been remodeling for almost 35 years. That's definitely not a number on the tip of my tongue.
At any rate, I would still get the sizes you need at your local glass shop. I imagine it would be considerably less than the $800 you were quoted. Shipping alone (for a non-local vendor) would be ridiculous.
What size piece are you actually talking about? I think that only door glass over a certain size must be tempered, so if you just buy a multi-pane door you need to double-check that it's tempered.
