Is there anything missing here to properly divert rain water flowing down the siding?

Maintain the beauty of stain-grade siding with proper prep and a protective oil finish.

born to be bad....
Bad basic design here. The door is over exposed to the elements. Could even be that bay window thingie is funneling runoff as well. Best design goes with function before form.
You are all correct. On top of that there is no housewrap so when the missing "Z" flashing is installed it cannot be integarted into the missing housewrap.
So what would you do now?
Well, as a friend of my dad once suggested, insure it, then burn it.
(It depends a lot on how much you want to invest in this effort. How bad is the leakage now, and do you absolutely positively want to eliminate it completely in all cases?)
I am not aware of any leakage yet.
What would it take to absolutely positively eliminate it completely in all cases?
Yeah, I agree, all these homes should be burned.
I'd go to a metal fabricator and have them bend up a 16" X 48" cap to cover the door. Slide the top flange of the cap up under the piece of siding several inches above the door.
1) Would you tape horizontally the new cap to the OSB sheeting?
2) The original horizontal J-channel would then be nailed trough the new cap, correct?
3) The new cap would extend to the right, a cut as indicated with a green line would be made to the vertical J-channel to take the new cap, correct?

4) On the left hand side the new cap should have a small "flap" that would be bent down into the vertical J-channel, correct? Bent up the "flap" on the right side, correct?
if i lived there....
First I'd give serious thought to building an awning roof or even a little porch there.
This solution would also require some kind of flashing that can't be done correctly because there is no housewrap to integrate it into. Or am I wrong?
