Got a small job to do, remove about 400 sq. ft. carpet and install prefinished parquet. Quick, easy job except the carpet is the glue down type and after removal, the subfloor is about 75% covered with the 1/4″ foam underlay incorporated in the carpet. Four hours with a sharpened drywall knife and I’ve got about 3/4 of the floor clean.
Anyone got a better way?

Thanks..........you guys are lots of help. <G>
Hi - I've been involved in some nasty carpet removals but only on concrete floors. We were told after killing ourselves that if we had wetted the floor the night before then the watersoluble adhesive would loosen its hold but this might cause a problem to the ply floor? Good Luck
Thanks, its done. One of those ugly tasks that always seems to show up with every job, and truth be told, its pretty mild compared to some of the things that I've run across. The midnight shift (restaurant renos) always seems to bring the worst.
Sometimes there is no substitute for elbow grease and a wandering mind.
The first 90% of the job takes 90% of the time and the remaining 10% takes the other 90% of the time.
