I need some #8 2″ waffle/washer head cabinet screws. I went to HD and found the both GRK and SPAX had the product. The GRKs were 50% more than the SPAX but I bought GRKs anyway. When I got home I checked the internet for comparison info. One of the CONS that kept showing up concerning the GRKs was the fact that guys kept finding bent screws in the packages. I opened the package I bought and the first few screws were (drum roll) bent. Anybody else run into this? I sent an email to GRK and am waiting for their response.

jim,
cant reply to your post like normal, but seems to work if I hit the quote button.
I'm a grk user and like their waffle head structural screws a lot. Usually buy by the pound which means I would likely see a problem which I haven't. Rarely, their finish screws might short me in a box because of no threads.....
If you were using these to hang cabs I'd recommend longer but I think you had a thread about a cab repair.....
You may hit the jackpot if GRK sends you another box, so congrats.
and then 3quotes........Taunton should be ashamed!
Hello Calvin,
How have you been? I'm not a big golf fan but everytime I see a PGA tournament on TV I check for your name on the Leader Board.
Not hanging a cabinet.....yes, just a cabinet repair and 2" #8 is the length and size for it.
What goes on with this Web Site? Doesn't seem to have the same amount of activity that it had in recent years.
Was there a Summer get together? I almost made it last year but was waylayed by a water pipe leak in my house.
Still no email when a response is posted.....
Jim
been good, driving and camping around the US.
Golf game currently sucks. Not playing weekly so the problem is hard to figure out. Keep trying tho.
no fest this year, might be one in southern Illinois next yr. We visit those we've met as we pass through. 50th class reunion in a week, that could be interesting.
And see, jackpot from GRK, hope you need 2 inchers in your future!
Jackpot! Just received an email and GRK offered to send another box. CS Rep said that they produce LOTS of screws and an occasional bent one is not uncommon.
I vaguely recalll finding more than a couple of bent screws in the last few boxes of GRKs I bought, but I can't say that it was an astounding number. Don't generally buy Spax, so I can't compare.
I've used a lot of SPAX and never encountered any bent ones. Not talking a lot of $ here but you'd think if they're charging 50% more than the competitor that quality control would be a little better. Bigger problems in the world.
HI Jimmiem, I use both GRK and Spax... alot more GRK because that is what my local supplier sells. I have never had a bent GRK in the many hundreds of pounds of all different types of their screws I have used. I believe the cost difference you are seeing has to do with the coating. Spax has a yellow zinc color, which are for interior only. GRK has a similar yellow coating, but they are engineered for extreme exterior conditions. They look very similar, but are apparently much different. You obviously didn't need the heavy duty GRK coating for an interior cabinet project, but with the bonus box they sent you I'd say you made the right choice. Back to the bent screw issue... just curious if HD is getting some rejects (talking about screws) in there...
I bought the GRK for 2 reasons....washer head was a tad bigger and the exterior coating might make them useful somewhere down the road. I returned the GRks and bought the SPAX and when I got home I found the GRK email with the offer of a box of GRKs.....now I have enough of these to last 2 lifetimes.....maybe return the SPAX. I haven't found many/any hardware stores that carry either the GRK or SPAX screws....did find some GRKs in a local lumber yard but not the full line. HD has a pretty good variety of both GRK and SPAX. Lowes doesn't carry SPAX....don't think they carry GRK either. Neither is my favorite place to go but sometimes they are the only ones that carry certain brands.
