As many of you know, Grossman’s was a chain of lumber stores in New England which folded in the late 90’s. I purchased all of my interior doors there, and am now trying to match one of them. Specifically, an 18″ 3 panel unfinished pine slab door. I’m converting an alcove to a closet and the door will be adjacent to a pair of 18″ doors that I bought at Grossmans. Because of the proximity to the existing doors, I’d like to get as close a match as possible.
Home Depot carries Jeld Wen interior doors which have the same proportions of stile and rail width but all their raised panels are “double hip.” They also only stock pre-hung 18″ doors and I need this to be slab to match the others. The guy in the door dept at HD tried to find an 18″ slab to order, but they were all double hip…which won’t match.
I’ve browsed the web looking for something similar but have yet to find a match. I was wondering if anybody remembers or knows what brand doors Grossmans sold…that would be a starting point.

Grossmans made a lot of their own doors and windows. I don't know if they carried other brands. They had a door and window shop where they did their fabrication. I worked for them but not in the manufacturing area. Grossman Bargain Outlets, which were the brain child of the son of the original Grossman's president, are in existence. They probably wouldn't have what you are looking for but maybe they have an old timer working there who might be able to help. I'll also try and locate a former co-worker or two and see if they remember anything about sources. Grossmans had about 160 stores at their peak. They had expanded to the midwest and west coast by acquiring some small chains. Home Depot showed up and killed Grossmans and a lot of other chains.
Thanks Jimmie.....let me know if you find anything that might help.
