I need to install an outdoor lantern on the side of my door. What height should it be installed?

I usually put them a foot or so below the top of the door.
Thank you

Was there ever any doubt?
Hold it up and see what looks good to you. If the fixture isn't available, and the owner hasn't selected one, we rough them in about 6'8". I'm assuming it doesn't shine up and is relatively small based on your calling it a lantern.

Not at eye level
I wouldn't do 'lantern style' they shine in your eyes and do little functional good, IMO. by one with full night sky cutoff ... not easy to find, but they are NICE!!! IMO. They light the area you need lit. They don't shine in your eyes so you can't see where you're going. And it is being a good neighbor to not have 'light trespass onto your neighbors proprerty (if that applies) ... or into the street where passersby get an eyefull. Exterior light fixtures are so poorly designed; it makes me want to just ... well you know.
Mount wherever they look reasonable ... I'd go about door height to the top of the fixture.
I just do it by eye. Hold it up there nad maybe have someone else take a looksee.
