Went to HD to buy some crown molding. I looked closely at the label and it stated the crown has 37/53 spring angle. My limited knowlege says the standard Sspring angles are 38/52. All the charts I have seen give miters and bevels for 38/52. While I don’t think that a 1 degree difference would make to much of a difference, I am just wondering why the HD just wouldn’t buy crown that has the most popular size. Any thoughts?

I've put up a lotta crown from antique salvage to the little pine "inside corner" stuff, big/small, short/tall and I can't quite say what it all means in the scheme of things.
Have cut it both flat and upside down/backwards, on hand boxes, radial and compound mitre saws.
used my eye, a degree folding square, degree tables, Bosch's electronic angle finder with degree of cut readout.
All that time, don't think I've ever seen the spring angle on a label. I'm more interested in the milling grooves on the backside. Just because it looks like it on the face, the differences on the back will tell me a whole lot about how it'll go up.
So to your question, there's a lot about crown where some little assd thing dictates the final result.
enjoy the job.
