Holy smokes!
I'm stunned. I don't know what to say.
Stunned as well. I never saw a cross word from him, only something in the vein of a hearty 'Welcome to Breaktime' or 'let me bump your post'.Maybe the archives can have an appropriate note stickied in his honor. Thanks for all you did here, Rez. Hopefully you're not stuck in between a couple of polijivers on the bus ride now.'Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it' ~ Chinese proverb

Thanks, Theodora.

That is terrible news. The 'dial ups' are going to need some extra guidance.

What a terrible loss.
I want to say he was part of the fabric of Breaktime but I think grain might be a more appropriate word.
If ever there was a thread that should be moved out of the tavern to general discussion this has my vote.

Wow what terribly sad news, we have all truly lost a 'good guy'.
He was such a wonderfully quirky chanracter, not a bad or mean bone in his body. He was BreakTime's doorman, concierge, and librarian. To me it seemed all he really wanted to do was be helpful. I really don't think we will see someone like him again anytime soon.
Goodspeed Rez.

It is always a shock when someone passes unexpectedly.I was just getting to know Rez, and I liked him and his posts.
I looked forward to his posts about the way it was in music.I'll miss him....pb
Wow, talk about a shot to the gut. Great guy who will be missed.
This is a real shocker.
Dave was one of the real heroes here.I can think of no finer way to honor him than to employ some self control in avoiding fights here and look for ways to make this place a finer one, the way he always did.So long Rez, be appreciating you muchly!

I just caught word via email from IMERC and link to this thread.
I feel like somebody just socked me in the gut and I wanna puke, I'm just sick reading this.
And my heart is heavy.
And I remember that Dave was also a cancer survivor so I used to give him sheet whenever he'd succumb and have a cig.
Oh man. I just can't believe this. There was only ONE Rez. There will never be his equal personality and presence on this Forum. Never. Nobody can do his "are we ready for a bagel?" inserts, or dancing babies or cartoon inserts of perfect timing...like he did.
DAMMIT but I will miss him!

Damn, this sucks! I'm already missing him, especially his gentle humour and whimsey, two of my favourite human characteristics. RIP, Rez. the world is a colder, lonelier place without you.

"I never knew he was a cancer survivor"
Well I believe they mentioned it in Rez's obit but I learned about it directly from him back during Calvin's Fest (Glass city river fest).
It occurred like this: I was a smoker back then myself...and Rez asked me for a cig. Not knowing there were any issues in his life, I simply granted his request and gave him one. Shortly thereafter I was taking pictures of the crowd and goings on and caught him smoking in one of those photos. Later, when we were all home from the Fest, I shared copy of that photo and he asked me to delete it. He was embarrassed to be photographed smoking; then he told me why and why he hated that he'd smoked a cig at all.
Of course I complied with his request. And on that day I learned a little bit more about our dear friend Rez - who was - quite a private person. He had that ability to draw more out of people than he exposed of himself; at least, that was what I found. He was always encouraging me to give more time to creative endeavors, knowing how much mental energy I have to expend each day in analytical and draining pursuits. I tried to categorize my room remodeling endeavors as "creative" since I had a vision of what was and what was to be, that I was trying to accomplish but he wouldn't buy off on that! LOL! he wanted me to do more stained glass and some of the needlework projects I occasionally do.
It hurt something awful to have JUST finished a 3-year long (on again, off again) needlework project on 1 November and took photo before I sent it to recipient. Was looking forward to sending a picture of it to Rez and saying: "see? I have stopped for minutes here and there to feed my creative side!" - and now he's not there at the end of the yahoo IM. So I'll just hold the picture up to the sky today and say: "Look Rez - I took your advice and Here's What I Made!" and vow for the umpteenth time this week to never put off telling folks what they mean to me.
So Pif - I am so glad you're home safely and hope you and Carole are both feeling as good as can be physically. I believe we're all individually and collectively reeling emotionally still from a multitudes of reasons...and each of us individually has a plethora of them.
"I'm a work in progress; still learning every day!"
He did have a way of drawing you out. There were times here he asked me a Q that I felt he knew the answer to, but he preferred me to say it than for him to state it.
Plus, he was bumping the good threads in doing so, to try and shadow the ugly threads. He sent me something once - he had found a large ( about 5") keyring full of old skeleton keys. He knew I could use them from something written here and just sent them. Didn't even ask.It was just a month or so ago that I had thanked him again for them as they had once again let me look like a hero by having what was needed.
Glad I took the chance to say it.

If anyone could be considerd the heart and soul of BT...
it was Rez.
The odd thing for me is the mental picture I had of Rez.At BT we communicate primarily in text. Other than the occasional full-frontal visual onslaught like SlateMan and Piffin threw at us in the Photo Gallery a while ago (aka "Dueling Bellies" LOL), we rarely see pics of each other.I had a mental image of a kindly, somewhat elderly gentleman with a hobby of encouraging the congenial side of BT. The pictures tell a younger, mischievous, much different story.Very sad.Scott.
this all way too surreal...

Brother rez was one of the few here whom I had little idea what went on in his personal life..anyone I ever asked didn't know all that much either...he seemed to care more about helping those here rather than complaining about things in his life. I really can't remember one negative thing after about a decade of anything rez ever said to hurt anyone's feelings.
I sat in the same chair by my computer today reading this...the same chair rez sat in when he gave me a scull cap of my very own...I wore it with a smile today rez cause I know I have a good brother waiting for me me and others on the other side when it's our time to come home as well...

I really can't remember one negative thing after about a decade of anything rez ever said to hurt anyone's feelings."
Let me tell you that Rez was fun and insecure and strong and stubborn and and and...he could cut right to the heart of the matter and bypass all BS.
It was earlier this summer that he and I were IM'ing on yahoo and I was saying we single BTers should start a thread about our much loved neices and nephews and what a big part of our hearts and lives they were...because the overwhelming population here of happily married with kids folks, never quite realize how their "I'm a grandpa!" or whatnot threads, cause a little bit of heartpain for those of us who are single and cognizant that we'll likely never have what you do...
So anyway - he was encouraging me to try internet dating sites - and I gave him intel on what I thought of them and why. But he told me to get on this one I'd never heard of before, and he'd chat with me on there and make sure I'd feel welcome. Well I succumbed to his suggestion - but within a week of being on there I encountered a lot ofthe same behavior patterns that always caused me to leave other "free" sites like that. But not before I got to see HIS profile on there. ANd send him some vitual indications of how much I cared about him and valued him.
Anyway - it was reviewing his writeup of himself that allowed me to see a greater extent of his own insecurities etc. And we talked about that. And in saying "what does one put in a profile and how do you write up 'what I'm looking for'? his response was a direct and brutally honest one. He simply wrote me back in his IM: "well, we're all just looking for love".
And I sit here this week and that is what tops my list of thoughts, i.e. that I hope he was finding love in his life. Because he sure was lovable.
Like many others who have posted in his online obit guest book, I was one of his regular correspondents and I will miss him immensely. He "got it" with more sensitivity and decency, than most.
"I'm a work in progress; still learning every day!"
Shreddie, that was really thoughful of you to share, and it feels good to read such nice things about him. You are generous...it helps us all to hear more about him.Any anytime you want to post a pic of your needlework, I for one would love to see it!

Had I not met him and talked with him I might have thought that this larger than life guy was invented by seeyou.
God knows he couldn't just, " be ".
But more seriously. Let us not watch the memory of this guy fade with time. I'm not suggesting a monument in the town square or anything. Something maybe harder, yet more simple.
When you post here, think of the human element that lays behind the screen name.
We've mentioned many times how great (or scary) it is to put a face to the name. Hell, Dave's first real debut was at our house here (I think), when he showed last minute for the Fest. Meeting him was a real nice thing!
So take this passing of a real good mysterious guy along with you. Think more of ''putting a face to the name"-humanize this forum. There is so much more than the printed word available to the users here. Don't miss out.

Nicely said Calvin. Thanks.
That was nicely said Calvin.
Over the weekend I was travelling, and thought of Rez, thinking how the changes to Breaktime over the last years and months seemed to hurt him. Polijive posts really seemed to bother him. Flying on a plane I was thinking, "what would Rez's ideal Breaktime look like." When I got home and read the news I felt it in my gut.
I never got a chance to meet him, but feel like I knew him, and I will miss him. I want this to be the place Rez wanted it to be. Not just for him, but because...that's a good place.
Be Rez's Breaktime....
Shall the next fest be a "RezFest"?People will be drawn to the event, without knowing why. They'll book airline tickets, arrange passage on the train...all while feeling a general calm enveloping them. When arriving, they'll be a quiet revelry. A greeting of old friends, the making of new. Why there might even be a regulation horshoe pit! Where most every toss is a ringer. The food shall stay hot, the beer nicely chilled, and for some reason the mosquitos will have gone elsewhere for those few days. The port-a-potty will be discretely located, and all who attempt to embarrass Mike by taking a photo of him exiting will be met with stuck shutters and lost jpeg files. The days will be deliciously warm and the nights will have just the right amount of chill to cool the air but still warm enough for short-sleeve shirts. And the skies shall remain dry.

Seems like back then songs had so much more meaning. They were actually thought provoking. Never really a need for a video. Videos in a lot of ways hurt music imo.So many songs back then could have you burst out in tears or take you to a whole other place.
Songs made you think...even act.
WTF happened?I guess it's a sign of the times, huh?
________
First thing I remember was askin' papa, "Why?",
For there were many things I didn't know.
And Daddy always smiled; took me by the hand,
Sayin', "Someday you'll understand."CHORUS:
Well, I'm here to tell you now each and ev'ry mother's son
You better learn it fast; you better learn it young,
'Cause, "Someday" Never Comes."Well, time and tears went by and I collected dust,
For there were many things I didn't know.
When Daddy went away, he said, "Try to be a man,
And, Someday you'll understand."CHORUSAnd then, one day in April, I wasn't even there,
For there were many things I didn't know.
A son was born to me; Mama held his hand,
Sayin' "Someday you'll understand."CHORUSThink it was September, the year I went away,
For there were many things I didn't know.
And I still see him standing, try'n' to be a man;
I said, "Someday you'll understand."CHORUSMmmm-mmmm-mmmm....View Image

Ya know I don't know if you can recruit and/or appoint that type of person and to do so certainly wouldn't be "Rez-like". Maybe when they made him they broke the mold too. I've got to agree with Jerrald. There was only one award hander outer, and greeter. Anyone else doing it wouldn't do it justice. And it's a niche he invented for himself.

Lying awake in the pre-dawn hours, I was whispering some words to the darkness and wondering about Rez.
I wondered at what a new phenomenon this whole internet thing is, especially to people of my generation and older. How it is that minute pulses through wires and space have connected hearts and souls to one another. These arrangements of simple words on a screen have reached certain depths that our own daily flesh and blood haven't.
We glean, and we give, and we glean again from one another, free of the encumbrance of the habitual and physical annoyances that come with the territory of closeness. Ships in the night passing and signaling one another, filtered of form by darkness and space, we climb aboard nonetheless and ride the waves for a while with each other, helping, fighting, inspiring and casting hope.
Then...we leave and move on.We say goodbye and take with us that which was given, and leave that which we gave. This is it. Face to face or screen to screen, our indomitable spirits have found yet another path to touch the common, the ethereal, the eternal. This is it. Sober and vital, we lace shoes and we go out the door. We all whisper our words to the close and holy darkness. This, (the moment), is it.

Those are some the more interesting thoughts... It's fleeting at best, life and all it's trappings.

Until you posted that, I had nearly forgotten about the BT Index (see his tagline). I offered to help with it, along with someone else who had volunteered to help out. (Can't remember who that was just now, but I know rez had a partner in this substantial endevour.)
Never could figger out how he was doing it, and I had the password to sign in as "modder" at one point. The index probably needs work though.
Hopefully, the other *guy* can remind me of the password, and I can get some of the index caught up. Grant's and Sphere's recent work would be good to add.

This is the week that was in matters musical…October 22, 2009(http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/graphics/newsletter/2009_1008/fogerty.jpg)1883, New York sees the grand opening of its Metropolitan Opera House …1956, R&B singer Clarence Henry’s "Ain’t Got No Home" is released on the Argo Records label … because he sings like a frog on the record, he is nicknamed "Frogman," and for the rest of his career is known as Clarence "Frogman" Henry … on a lesser note, an oddly gyrating singer with an equally unusual name makes his second appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show … he’s called "Elvis" something or other …1960, Ben E. King, former lead singer for The Drifters, records his first solo numbers, "Spanish Harlem" and "Stand by Me" …1962, Steveland Morris Judkins makes his first recording … instant success eludes him with this first record, but the accolades are not far away for the artist eventually known as Stevie Wonder … James Brown records a live show in the face of objections from his record label … an in-concert soul album has never been done before … Live at the Apollo, financed by Brown himself, turns out to be among the Godfather of Soul’s most brilliant performances … the album goes on to sell millions …1964, after an audition with EMI, a London band known as The High Numbers is rejected … who? … exactly … formerly known as The Who, the name change is imposed by manager Pete Meaden, who, adding further insult, dresses the boys in mod suits … not to worry, the kids turn out alright … they resume their name and climb to fame … Buddy Holly sound-alike David Box who worked briefly with The Crickets following Holly’s death, ironically dies in a plane crash coming back from a gig …1966, The Beach Boys’ "Good Vibrations" charts for the first time on its way to #1 … the single is the result of six months work and 17 sessions in four different studios at an unprecedented cost of $16,000 …1972, Philly soul singer Billy Paul gets on the soul charts with "Me and Mrs. Jones" … the song holds the top position for three weeks and later becomes a soul classic …1973, John Lennon files suit against the U.S. government alleging that the FBI tapped his phone in an effort to deport the former Beatle …1975, justifying his title The Boss, Bruce Springsteen makes both the cover of Time and Newsweek …1978, Sid Vicious attempts to off himself at Rikers Island, where he's awaiting trial for the murder of Nancy Spungen … the misfiring Pistol will get out and O.D. before he can be prosecuted for the crime …1980, Jefferson Starship bassist Paul Kantner's brain starts bleeding during a recording session … he recovers fully after a few weeks in the hospital …1988, after more than a decade of rancorous relations with John Fogerty, the aptly named Fantasy Records launches a suit claiming he plagiarized his own song, "Run Through the Jungle" with his solo effort "The Old Man Down the Road" … despite the fact that John Fogerty apparently sounds alike, this is one Fantasy that will not be fulfilled … the court rules in Fogerty’s favor six years later …1995, business manager Yolanda Saldivar is sentenced to life for the murder of Tejano singing star Selena … she murdered the singer upon being confronted about embezzled funds … and let that be a lesson to all those contemplating a life of crime as hedge fund managers … never try to cover up embezzlement with murder … it doesn’t play well in court …1999, an animated debut of Korn’s new single "Falling Away From Me" debuts on the season premiere of South Park … Tina Turner announces plans for her final stadium concert tour …2001, in the midst of flagging computer sales, Apple announces its new MP3 player, the iPod … the immensely popular portable player signifies a new beginning for Apple and new company mantra, "iPod, therefore I am" (financially solvent, that is) …2004, Ashlee Simpson is busted lip-synching on Saturday Night Live when the backing tracks with vocals from the song Simpson had performed earlier in the evening begin to play just as she is about to perform her second number … always a woman of integrity, Simpson takes the heat explaining, "My band started playing the wrong song." … earlier in her career, in an interview with Lucky Magazine, Simpson talked about lip-synching: "I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me" … crusading New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer announces that he has launched an investigation of payola practices in the music business … EMI, Warner Music Group, Sony-BMG, and Universal receive subpoenas demanding that they produce communications with independent record promoters—the middlemen paid by record companies to get airplay … during a call-in talk show on San Francisco radio station KGO shockjock Howard Stern tears into FCC Commission Chairman Michael Powell, whose agency had previously issued big fines against Stern for indecent on-air remarks … Stern accuses Powell of getting his government gig by virtue of his father Colin Powell’s heft as U.S. Secretary of State …2005, U2 guitarist The Edge, producer Bob Ezrin, Gibson Guitar, and Guitar Center join forces under The Edge’s Music Rising banner to supply instruments to Gulf Coast musicians devastated by Hurricane Katrina … the two corporate partners pledge a minimum of $1 million … after taking heat for a copy-protection system that buried software deep in computers making them susceptible to viruses, Sony BMG announces it will stop embedding the anti-piracy software on its CDs … aarrgh, mateys … no friggin’ with the riggin’ … aargh, aargh, aargh …2006, in an odd case of life imitating art, Paul McPike, a 32-year-old grocery store employee from Medford, OR, files a lawsuit charging that Green Day's American Idiot album is entirely made up of songs that he wrote 12 years earlier when he was in high school … McPike says that he used to regale his high school pals with the original versions of "Jesus of Suburbia" and other classics back in 1992 … he believes that someone must have surreptitiously recorded one of his performances and leaked them to Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong … McPike, who has not recorded or performed since high school, offered Green Day’s album itself as evidence, claiming that Billie Joe didn’t sing the lyrics exactly as written on the album’s insert … we’d make the obvious Paul McPike/American Idiot joke, but it’s far too easy, and American Psycho is already taken … damn you Christian Bale, you stole our idea before we were able to think of it … we smell a lawsuit …2007, Wu-Tang rapper RZA comes out on top in the Hip-Hop Chess Federation tournament in San Francisco … commenting on his strategy, RZA intones, "When my queen comes out, she’s comin’ out to shake her ####" …… and that was the week that was in matters musical.ArrivalsOctober 22: Bobby Fuller of "I Fought The Law" fame (1943), punk rocker Stiv Bator, born Stivin Bator Bump. And a funny Rez story. Well it cracked me up at the time. Seeyou was telling me about sharing a room with Rez at Tipifest. He said they would get up in the morning and the only thing Rez would worry about was what he was going to wear. His wardrobe consisted of all cut off shirts, bandanas, and shorts. He said it was the funniest thing watching him make such a limited selection seem like such an important decision.
Lol! Ah man, that really is funny, I'm laughing here with tears running down my face. Sun & rain....there's a rainbow here somewhere.
So what would he have worn during his final departure????Mrs Jet want's to know.......you do the sniff test! don't you????
Bandana, cut off plaid shirt and cargo shorts.
I don't understand the sniff test.
Wait I get the sniff test now. Nope. Once I've worn it. Wash it.

Doesn't matter "where in line" ya are Tim in learning the news...we all felt the same gut punch, just the same. Sorry to say 'welcome' to that club.
"I'm a work in progress; still learning every day!"
Hi Clara,
Add me to the que. I mentioned to Carole in another thread that I'd been away and then come back to this news. How shocking to hear. I first thought it was another BT cruel joke. Sadly, not.
We were lucky to have known him. I never met him, personally, but consider him a friend.
Always willing to share and help. Always taking the high road. Always a a wink and a friendly poke. Forever the class act.
Taunton was especially lucky he took an interest. So much positive input that you could never put a price upon. There are too many other good contributors to name for fear of leaving someone out but this guy seemed to be the hub. I would hope the powers that be at Taunton recognize this and give him fair tribute in the next issue. This is a time to put business aside and honor a friend to all.
A toast to Rez. Thank you sir.
Jim
I'm not flippin' you off.........just counting cubits
Your standard of living will eventually diminish to your standard of buying. Think about it.
dangnabit Jim you captured so concisely and so well I just gotta repost your words:
Rez was: "Always willing to share and help. Always taking the high road. Always a a wink and a friendly poke. Forever the class act. We were lucky to have known him."
"I'm a work in progress; still learning every day!"
Rez - this was getting too far down the list.....
"May the road rise to meet you,May the wind be always at your back,May the sun shine warm upon your face,The rains fall soft upon your fields,And until we meet again,May God hold youIn the palm of his hand."
JimNever underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
I just found out, too. Start crying whenever I think about Dave.He was one of the first to welcome me to this site, as he made so many others feel right at home here.Always tried to get people to find common ground, and just enjoy hanging out. He was such a big part of this place.Luka said it well, I just feel numb.
Hugs to you too, Clara. I think we all need 'em right now.

Gentlemen,
It's been some time since I've visited this forum. However, I used to frequent it more regularly. I remember Rez. He'll be missed for sure.
My condolences to his family.
New knowledge is priceless.
Used knowledge is even more valuable.
Still shocked by the news. Very sad to hear.

I had another occasion to think of him this morning. He was always razzing me about the house at the end of my driveway that was falling in on itself. The tow finally got them to demolish it. As I left home, I stopped there to shoot some photos of the pond with morning mist at sunrise. Walking past the debris pile reminded me of him constantly suggesting I buy the place to improve it.

Did someone in this thread mention a collection in Rez's name to be given to his family?
Well, I got a pledge tonight from someone. I had offered earlier to host a collection over at Quittintime and I guess they responded to that.
So, here you go if you folks want to do something.

Did someone get in touch with them? You know to see if it was ok?
I have not.
I remember reading something here (maybe in this thread) that mentioned memorial donations for the family being taken. Offered QT to be the funnel for contributions, but heard nothing.
When the pledge came tonight I just put it up on the QT board.

Hey, did you ever get any info from the funeral home about a Rez family fund?
k
KFC,Dude! I should've updated things here I guess. I apologize.
My mission was to try and find something that Rez, might have been interested in, like a cause or local interest type thing, that we could help out in, in some way to commemorate Rez. That kinda went bust.Right now, Calvin is working on a plan that might be real cool. I'm not gonna say what it is. That's up to him,... but if it doesn't pan out we still have other options to pursue.Check: http://www.quittintime.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php/Cat/0/Board/auction
And the thread is: . REMEMBERING REZThat may help all keep up some with the progress.I do know this,...Of all the people that I talked to, Rez was well known, in his local community, and as you might have guessed, he was well liked, as well.Stay tuned! We will get something done.pbView Image
Thanks for the update. I'll check the quittintime thread. You know, the funny thing is, I got the impression that I kind of annoyed Rez on a personal level, but he'd still bump my threads along because I was here on BT.That says a lot to me- he didn't just help folks out b/c he liked them individually. If they were on his watch, he'd help them out...k
Dude,I've seen several threads that he would bump. I mean, it seemed like the original post was just not in sync with the moon or somethin'. But then Rez would catch it, and bump it, and all would change.I ain't been here long, but Rez, was one who impressed me the short time that I knew him.He was the first person that I posted to here. Actually, I think he warned me about entering the Tavern. I had that "Hotel California" thing going on after that. But I still gave it a shot.pb---,... and I just wish that Rez could see me now!!!View Image

This would be what I wanted to do, but Firefox didn't like me. Or these forms. So maybe IE will co-operate . If you go through a few threads here you will see that it's gone. Seems not only you but JoeH wanted to hurt me. LOL. So I took it off. Rez wanted to know why, I told him, and the was teed off. So he asked if he could use, I said fill your boots it isn't mine.. Halfway Down
A. A. Milne
Halfway down the stairs
Is a stair where I sit.
There isn't any other stair
Quite like it.
I'm not at the bottom,
I'm not at the top;
So this is the stair
Where I always stop.
Halfway up the stairs
Isn't up and isn't down.
It isn't in the nursery,
It isn't in the town.
And all kinds of funny thoughts
Go running round my head:
"It isn't really anywhere!
It's somewhere else instead!"

Because we practice birth control. Actually our niece has moved down from Michigan and is using it. The lovely wife decided last weekend that it has to be totaly repainted. So she took everything out and into my computer room, and the living room and told me to paint it. I told her she could paint it, I didn't care if it ever got done. It was just painted a year ago and looked fine. Anyway her and Alexis have been painting it all week. They are actually pretty good.
I hate to paint.
The secret to painting is to be bad enough not to be asked to do it again. My BIL did that. My sister is the village perfectionist. A couple of hours per room to paint. He announced that he was finished after 15 mins. Never had to hold a brush again.'Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it' ~ Chinese proverb
View Image
That don't work in my house. I am a decent painter. And can do a good job. I paint all the time in banks with a herd of women waiting to pick apart every flaw.
I tried the mess up technique once here and I am still getting grief over it. The problem is when we first got married I repainted the house for her showing off my skills and she has expected absolute perfection since. And she wants to paint every year it seems. I'm wore out with it. I'm gonna have to reinforce the foundation to hold up all the extra paint on the walls.
Just a side note. Her and her sister painted the kitchen when I was gone to Seattle last summer. Horrible paint job. That's what ticks me off even more. She complains about every small imperfection and then can't paint a lick herself.

"You smile at someone and they 99% out of a hundred x's smile back...you usually attract what you put out."This is very true.
Everybody carries with them a certain energy when they're out in public along with a guise that can be true, false, or a mixture of the two. I suspect the last one to be the one most use.I often try and step outside my own "face in the jar by the door", and meet the eyes of people, total strangers, and smile, even if it goes against how I'm feeling at the moment. Many are at first suspicious, but it's quite surprising how many people out there are waiting for an invite to smile or laugh, and just feel better about life, if only for that moment.
All of us on this planet know that we're in it together and ultimately have to walk that green mile one day. There's a recognition of that sameness of the human condition in all, and once in a while we come across a troubadour who sings and speaks the poetry of this condition, reminding us of things forgotten.Rez was one of these, and I am grateful for the short time twixt his arrival and departure.
Funny you should bring that up. The other day I was getting a drink at a convenience store. There was a lady there getting one at the same time, and we were sort of in each others way. At some point we made eye contact, and she flashed one heck of a smile at me.I thanked her, and she asked why. I told her : "I don't get smiled at a whole lot, so I appreciated that". She seemed to think it was funny. Anyway it was kind of a neat moment. She was fairly attractive and about my age. But dangit, I was so caught off guard that I forgot to check to see if she had a wedding ring on. I hope that doesn't count as points against my man card...
Every so often, I like to stick my head out the window, look up, and smile for a satellite picture.
-100 points for you.
I do hope that you realize one day, that wedding rings can mean very little to some women. And some even ignore men w/out them. But will follow you like lost kitten if you have one on. Funny how that works.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

A last thought about REZ~
With the change coming looks like REZ took Breaktime with him. Little did we know the passing was for us all. At least were in good hands.

I thought it less evil, more as a kindness. We don't know we're gone yet and Rez is helping us figure it out. Much like that kid in the Bruce Willis flick, I see Dead Posters.
I'm still working on some sort of lasting memorial for our friend. Please bear with me a little bit longer-I was hoping to get some answers to my questions b/4 they dumped this old forum, but it's not looking good. No matter what, we'll resurrect this thread and keep this going. Rez spent way more hours keeping up his good work than we'll ever expend.

Hey cal, this new "format" is about as easy to get around, and understand, as Rez's lump of iron

Holly,
Rez's hunk of iron..............
Got home yestdy, propped up the neighbors feature fence-blown near to the drive-leaning against a tree. Snapped the in the ground treated posts..........HIGH WINDS. Nowhere for the wind to go, cept through it.
Then pick up a couple trash cans, some tin from a neighbor, a few branches..............man, temp going down.
So there I am, pretty well secured and I look over at one of my shit piles. Some cedar I have off the ground and under a pretty heavy tarp.
Tarp blown off......crap.
I get it back on and secured on one side with a 4x4 on it.
Other side, not so easy. Not enough extra to lay a plank on.
Still with me?
So, a length of rope on a concrete block for one corner.
and what pops in my mine for the other corner? not lugging a block from the block pile........but that pc of iron? would have been perfect-why did I ever take it to andy's?
That rez, always thinking.
Hey, html........who's your daddy?
Off to get a new mail box-I see the wind alleviated a branch which did in the old one.
I love winter.

Holy crap! I just found out about Rez's passing. I must have been living under a rock the last two months to have not heard about this! Rez will be seriously missed. I can't even keep track of the dozens, possibly hundreds of e-conversations I'd had with him in various threads.
Wow, I think in one of them we were talking about what would happen with all his 'stuff' when he died. We were just joking. Who would have ever known... He wasn't old enough to die.
There were times when I'd be gone a few weeks without posting on BT, and it was typically a Rez query that would bring me back. He would reply to one of my old posts to bounce a BT notification at me or would email me. I feel horrible that I've gone two months without noticing a pillar of BT was gone (I just haven't been on BT much lately).
And as others have mentioned... how many Rez bumps did my threads get?
The "what bargain did you find today" thread will never be the same.
Rest in peace my friend. I fear those big shoes you've left behind will never be filled.
john.
The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
As home we brought you shoulder-high.
To-day, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.
Smart lad, to slip betimes away
From fields where glory does not stay,
And early though the laurel grows
It withers quicker than the rose.
Eyes the shady night has shut
Cannot see the record cut,
And silence sounds no worse than cheers
After earth has stopped the ears:
Now you will not swell the rout
Of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.
So set, before the echoes fade,
The fleet foot on the sill of shade,
And hold to the low lintel up
The still-defended challenge-cup.
And round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead,
And find unwithered on its curls
The garland briefer than a girl's.

Everytime I pass this thead I wonder how rez would have dealt with this forum as it is now. His workload surely would have increased had he decided to stick with it.
I'm thinking he wouldn't have buckled easily.
It's one of the things that has kept me around here. Certainly hasn't been the newfound comraderie with the powers that be.
Good to see you around .................. me, I've almost given up. I see some changes but to me it's like putting lipstick on a pig. I've often wondered what Rez would think of the changes to our (former?) home and how he would have dealt with them. Hope all is well.
Not ready to throw it in yet. I'm starting to think they take a certain satisfaction watching people leave.
I'm guessing you'll hold out until opening day.......

Hey Rez.... ya got a fest named after ya. Waddaya think about that?!
And
that's not an April Fools Day prank a day early!!
I keep checkin' in a few times a week,... but, MAN! It is slow.
I have to admit, I'm getting more of the odd jobs done around here.
But I do miss the way it was.
It isn't the easiest thing in the world that's for sure.
But, and maybe this is because I've worked at it for the last 4 months, I'm managing to do it with less hassle every day.
There's the occasional "blank page" that pops up from time to time.
The complete bunch of letters and numbers gobblygook that I guess is some sort of code?.................
And of course scrolling allllllllllll the way around, which one could assume they could figger out some day.......
and the NEW which if you work at it backwards in a certain way with your fingers crossed...........you might find what you're looking for.
So in my thinking, if Rez had been here I've no doubt he wouldn't have been one to easily follow the exodus and for sure he would have had the insight and smarts to guide these straggling in newcomers around. So with that bright thought I've just kept at it.
Who knows, one day somebody might bump something and what's still goofy will all straighten out. I'm sure we'll receive no notice of that either.
I still got my fingers crossed,...
I try to keep a good eye on the old place here. But I do like to keep up with the strays as well.
I comment on/in any thread that catches my interest to the point that I have something to say.
So I guess the more that catches my eye the more I'll post. That's the way I do it on any other forum.
I don't start many threads anywhere, but I do try to rotate forums.
I still hold hope for this place, and I'll be around for for a good while yet.
and I'll be around for for a good while yet.
Always a pleasure.
Hey, think about the Fest.
Ahhhh,... the fest
I'm afraid that this years fest is outta my reach. I've already told Pedro that I'd hook up with him this spring sometime. If it had been farther south, I think both of us would've shown up.
But if there is enough interest,... I may do the relay central thingy. I doubt it will be like last year, but I'm still open. There's enough, "I-Poders" that I could stay pretty busy.
Anyway, keep the faith dude, and Rez on!
farther south?
Geez, you'd think you'd relish the thought of getting up there with sweet young thangs of Saratoga.
Faith? plenty of that.
Well,...
I'd love to go with Rick, because he's gonna do a pilgramige thing through all the places he has worked in that sector of the country. I've been to many of them too.
But time would never permit that, at least this year.
Anyway I'll find away to be part of it,...
I keep checkin' in a few
Sorry,... me and this software don't get along I guess
Here's to you buddy.
You're being missed at the dinner table.

Thanks for pulling this up.
Rez was one of a kind, especially considering the occupants of these forums. He was one sincere sob. Glad we got to meet.
Yeah, I rode up to tipifest with him. He seemed to like to do good for people, espicially for those down on their luck, but evenso, his own life seemed mysterious. He didn't talk about himself at all, except for stuff he did as a kid and regretted, and music. He talked just mostly about people he knew. Hit me like a ton of bricks when I heard he passed on.
Rest in Peace, Rez
I always appreciated your helpful spirit, thoughtful advice, and hilarious commentary.
