I have to replace a missing slate on an outdoor chair. If possible, I would like to use the same species of wood for the missing slate as the present slates. Any tips on figuring what wood species the chair is made from? The chair is stained will an oil based stain and poly. If I can’t match the original I would use redwood or maybe cedar, both of which are readily available to me. Could it be white oak or teak? How to tell?

Teak and oak are hard. Redwood and cedar are soft. That may help a smidge.
Outdoor Furniture Wood
Thank You. Seems to be hard wood...don't know if I can find teak...white oak may be easier to find. Also, we have some teak furniture and the grain of the outdoor furniture seems more like oak anyway.
If you have a piece of the wood (eg, from the broken slat) take it to a REAL paint store, and likely the folks there will identify the species.
